Musings on my fabric-based experimentation, projects successful and not-so, dreams and plans. Friday, April 3, 2015. A few weeks ago I sewed a sweater top for myself, in the midst of the epic winter of February/March 2015, where in the Northeast we had 10 weekends in a row with measurable snowfall. I brought home the last cut of Avalon cotton sweater knit from work at Sawyer Brook, and matched it with McCalls 6796. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. My chapter of ASDP (Association of Sewing and Design Professionals) had its holiday meeting last Sunday. Most years we plan this as a museum visit followed by lunch at a restaurant, and we schedule it for early January to avoid conflict with everyone's holiday events. Such fun to be able to pull out my good china and Donna's best tea cups. One of the Ama...

Musings on my fabric-based experimentation, projects successful and not-so, dreams and plans. Wednesday, February 3, 2016. An abundance of Lilly Pulitzer! I described the kind of sewing I prefer to do, stressing that unless there were cost restrictions, I always put back what I find, meaning the garment is reconstructed using the original techniques. She was comfortable enough with my answers that she arranged to bring me some items to work on. Dresses, skirts and pants. If you've never seen this des...

Musings on my fabric-based experimentation, projects successful and not-so, dreams and plans. Saturday, September 6, 2014. How did they DO that? This post isnt going to be about anything Ive sewn. Not that I havent been sewing (actually very little, since I just got back from vacation.) Its about something new I just discovered in the RTW fashion thats available. Im looking for any knowledge anyone out there has to share, to help me figure out exactly what was done to this garment. How did they DO that?

Musings on my fabric-based experimentation, projects successful and not-so, dreams and plans. Saturday, February 14, 2015. I finished a pair of jeans for myself last week, the second Ive made from the old Sandra Betzina pattern. The first pair, now over 2 years old, is so comfortably worn in I cant remember a time when they didnt fit so well - but I know I wasnt 100% satisfied with the fit when they were completed.
