Dig deep: February 2012

http://digdeep1962.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 16, 2012. 14th Feb 2012:Kampung Permatang Pauh, mainland Penang. This afternoon I set out to find the wettest area of padifields I could, since most of the area is now bone dry. After some scouting around, I came across a single sizable pool, and it was chock-full of waders! They must have been here the whole time! There was also a lone Common Greenshank in the stilt flock. For more on this! A couple of shots of the left side reveal a similar pattern of freshly moulted breeding feathers.

Dig deep: July 2012

http://digdeep1962.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 01, 2012. Joining the dots: the Peninsular Malaysia marine boundary. With more and more interest in and information on pelagic birds in Malaysian waters, sooner or later, I thought, we will need to work out exactly where Malaysia ends and neighbouring territories begin! So I spent a few hours this afternoon doing a complicated dot-to-dot exercise, mapping the coordinates from this site: http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borders of Malaysia. Here are the results of my labours! The second was seen ...

Dig deep: June 2012

Friday, June 29, 2012. 28 June 2012: Pelagic off Tanjung Dawai, Kedah. I wasn't expecting much today, and was pleasantly surprised to have my expectations exceeded! These two Long-tailed Skuas were flushed by the boat before 8 am, an unusually early start to proceedings. A brisk southerly wind built up during the day, and a succession of thundery squalls interrupted the bright sunshine. This made for interesting lighting and a cool breeze throughout the day - very pleasant. What a difference a ray makes!

Clutter of my Mind: Alya Paparazzi

http://myclutteredroom.blogspot.com/2010/01/alya-paparazzi.html

Clutter of my Mind. To Seek and to Observe. Paparazzi is the song that she likes. It is a song by Lady Gaga (correct me if i'm wrong). Lady Gaga is the epitome of what-fashion-looks-like-before-2012 (just kidding). 2012 was, or still is, prophesised to be the end of this world. This world is definitely, and surely, going to end. It is old, it is in bad condition. But the date? We may only guess, we cannot know for sure. Will make you know very soon WHO IS THE KING OF THE HOUSE.even from his crib. The pre...

Wednesday, 21 March 2012. The view from inside. The swampy pond just below the hut: It just a small pond but you can get a lot of eel here. Black-naped Oriole - usually visiting the hut to feed on a fruiting tree. Yellow Vented Bulbul - The commonest bird around. Little Green Heron - Resting on a rotting branch that give a good condition for this bird to camouflage. Wednesday, 14 March 2012. Tanjung Tuan Raptor Watch 7 - 9 March 2012. The Yellow-vented Bulbul chicks in their cage. Feeding the chick by using stick - the chick cannot feed the food by itself yet. I'll post the next development of this Bulbul chicks on the next week post.

Birds in Tasmania: Return of the Striated Pardalotes

http://tassiebirds.blogspot.com/2013/08/return-of-striated-pardalotes.html

Monday, August 05, 2013. Return of the Striated Pardalotes. There are definite signs of Spring about, the most obvious at the moment are the numerous Masked Lapwing pairs that have started nesting in various grassland sites. While for many, the arrival of the Welcome Swallows heralds Spring, I look forward to the return of one of our smallest birds, the Striated Pardalote. I always find such events uplifting and something to be savoured, and set off in pursuit. I've never seen large flocks of pardalotes,...

Monday, 9 January 2012. Permatang Pauh ricefield 8/1/2012. I went to my playground as usual and today I decide to do the full-scale birding for this area. I start birding from Permatang Nibong ricefield covering the whole Permatang Pauh ricefield area up to Air Itam Dalam. The ricefields in this area generally in a fruiting stage and the ricefield surrounding Air Itam Dalam area already ripen. The harvester machine already operating at the ricefield area situated north of Air Itam Dalam. The next place i...

Inner Artist: December 2014

Wednesday, December 10, 2014. 50 Ways to Paint A Nautilus. She said to me. The answer is easy if you. I'd like to help you in your struggle. There must be fifty ways.". An early attempt at a still life with nautilus. Attempting the stripes on the shell. And then there are those darn stripes! I was so nervous about messing up the stripes that my hand was shaking as I tried to paint them. Another attempt at a still life with nautilus. Maybe I needed to take a deep breath and approach this in a different wa...

Birding On Bike: Part 2 - Sedim...the silent waterfall

http://motorbird.blogspot.com/2012/06/part-2-sedimthe-silent-waterfall.html

Thursday, 28 June 2012. Part 2 - Sedim.the silent waterfall. I ride my motorbike South following the flow of Bintang Hijau Range. Along the 16 KM ride to neighbouring recreational forest, Sungai Sedim, there are lot of village with interesting name such as Kampung Badang and Padang Belon. Pleasant sight of green rubber farm and orchard along my ride was obstructed bty some ugly looking cleared forest (New Palm oil or rubber plantation - Village folk told me). Birding On Bike: part time job -Best perk ever

http://motorbird.blogspot.com/2012/07/part-time-job-best-perk-ever.html

Friday, 6 July 2012. Part time job -Best perk ever. I've got a new part time job which need me to visit an area just above the east-west highway (site located less than 10 km to Pergau dam. The consultant company and the university (which I'll be continuing my study in near future) had attach some device at the slope on the hill just above the highway in order to detect any land movement. My job is to take the reading. I had to measure the distance between this poles. The view on the top of tunnel. Air H...

Clutter of my Mind. To Seek and to Observe. Salam to you. So long, yes? So much has happened, too. A lifetime of.an experience to remember. God knows what is best.what you can't control, what you have decided, what you have done.you just can't mull over it wishfully hoping you can change it.
