Alphie in the Kitchen: Slow roasted lamb & chilli fetta carrots
http://alphieinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2013/06/slow-roasted-lamb-chilli-fetta-carrots.html
Alphie in the Kitchen. Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Slow roasted lamb and chilli fetta carrots. In the low calorie. Obsession of the last 12 months, I bought a number of cookbooks I would not have otherwise. On reflection, most of the books are are quite weird but one that has had more than it's fair share of gems, is Jane Kennedy's OMG! I Can Eat That? A recent favourite thanks to a continuing excess of carrots that arrive in our fruit and vege delivery. Is also found in OMG! I Can Eat That? I Can Eat That?

Alphie in the Kitchen. Friday, October 19, 2012. Ottolenghi, Islington, London. It's been a long time coming, but this is the last instalment of our London dining adventures. We only booked two restaurants before we left Australia; Dinner. I have sung my praise for Ottolenghi's book, Plenty, many times already on this blog. House made bread with olive oil. Grilled pear with Roquefort, spicy macadamia, mixed leaves. And orange blossom dressing. Mixed green beans with shaved asparagus, garlic, chilli,.

Alphie in the Kitchen: January 2012
http://alphieinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Alphie in the Kitchen. Sunday, January 29, 2012. It seems that I have made a bit of a name for myself at work as a master macaron baker. Mostly because I have been taking all my practice runs in to work so I'm not left eating them all! This notoriety resulted in one of my colleagues requesting an Adrian Zumbo style macaron tower. For his wifes 40th birthday. I hesitantly accepted the challenge (for a fee! With the disclaimer that I'm ok to make macarons for 100, but I was not so sure on the 'tower' part.

Alphie in the Kitchen: May 2013

Alphie in the Kitchen. Wednesday, May 29, 2013. My Week on a Plate - Mining Camp Style. Dearest Readers (if I have any left! It has been far far to long between drinks. I do have a somewhat reasonable excuse though. I have spent a large proportion of the last 6 months in Port Hedland, working 12 hour days, often for 12 days at a time (and with only 2 days off! And, when I wasn't in Port Hedland, Mr Alphie and I were on holiday in North America - more on that later. We start on a Thursday evening. Every c...

Alphie in the Kitchen: Microwave Potato Chips
http://alphieinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2013/08/microwave-potato-chips.html
Alphie in the Kitchen. Wednesday, August 28, 2013. This recipe, if you can call it that, is an oldie in our house, but I still love it. I don't follow the original instructions exactly, mostly because it calls for equipment I don't have, and am unlikely to use for anything else (plastic microwave-safe steaming rack, anyone? Slice the potato into thin, even, rounds. I use a mandoline/v-slicer thingo, with the 'thin' blade attachment. And now this is where the magic happens. I think I've tried sweet potato...

Alphie in the Kitchen. My loving husband. Also an engineer, with his own cooking specialities - bread is his forte; bagels, pizza bases, pastry (puff and shortcrust), all things I am hopeless at! One of FH Alphie's closest friends. Another engineer, who, surprise surprise, is in the Navy, doing something to do with weapons electrical (don't quote me! My younger sister, a journalist now living in Tassie. A semi-veggo who shares my love for cooking, food and clothes. Mr and Mrs Pink. Mr Alphie and I went t...

Corner Cottage Bakery: October 2013
http://cornercottagebakery.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 30 October 2013. The bare branches of the tree tapping and scraped on the kitchen window. She shuddered. Goosebumps shivered up and down her arms as she pulled her jumper tighter. Had it got colder? There was only one egg left. She lowered the spatula. Bit the inside of her cheek. Looked at the stand mixer. Couldn't continue with her cake plans. And decided to make walnut whips instead. 4 walnut halves (or more, these are big). 1, Melt the chocolate and paint the inside of your dariole moulds ...
