Dirt Candy - Events
http://www.dirtcandynyc.com/events
October 19 - 26. Terroir Culinary Tour of Ireland and Italy. Is one of my favorite food conferences, and who doesn't like Italy? Throw in Ireland, and this trip becomes downright insane and I'm lucky to be involved. Basically, Arlene and Rebecca of Terroir are going to take folks on an eight day food tour of Italy and Ireland. Before a final day in Dublin. Here are all the details, the schedule, and tickets. Monday, August 1st. I'm teaming up with fellow no-tipping restaurant, Huertas. Opens for dinner a...

Ye Olde Dirt Candy Blog (2008-2014). Or just enjoy our greatest hits:. Being on Iron Chef. How Not to Open a Restaurant. Meet the Dirt Candy Exotic Wine Zoo. Best of the Blog: Food Gone Wild. I own a lot of cookbooks. A LOT of cookbooks. And one of the things I love most are old cookbooks and the snapshots they give of vanished restaurants and recipes. I also love delis that make art out of ketchup. These posts give you both. The gentle art of entertaining. Let's check out the restaurant scene of 1958.

Dirt Candy - Press
http://www.dirtcandynyc.com/press
Eating at Dirt Candy can be like going to a child’s birthday party in a country where all the children love vegetables.Ms. Cohen is not adapting the vegetarian cuisine of some other culture. She is inventing her own. Whether or not you’re a vegetarian, you’ll enjoy this against-type, meat-free East Village restaurant. Many of her dishes are so earnest in their embrace of a single ingredient that you find yourself stopping to really think about that vegetable, as if for the first time.
Dirt Candy - Dietary Restrictions
http://www.dirtcandynyc.com/dietrestrictions
We'll do our best to accommodate whatever dietary restrictions you might have. But sometimes it helps to know about them in advance. Just tell your server when you sit down. All of our dishes can be made vegan, except for one of our sides (Creamed Chard) and as long as your server knows, they can make sure you get the right version of each dish. Unfortunately, right this minute, most of our desserts have a vegan version, but not all.

SUPERFOODS IN WARSAW: Batata harra i dip cukiniowo-ogórkowy
http://superfoods-in-warsaw.blogspot.com/2014/11/batata-harra-i-dip-cukiniowo-ogorkowy.html
Środa, 12 listopada 2014. Batata harra i dip cukiniowo-ogórkowy. Pod egzotyczną nazwą batata harra. Kryje się jeden z najprostszych przepisów z nowej książki mojego ukochanego Yotama Ottolenghiego Plenty more.
aussie new yorker: "You Aussies..."
http://aussienewyorker.blogspot.com/2013/01/you-aussies.html
Saturday, January 12, 2013. As I return to New York from a blazing summer in Australia with bushfires burning out of control across much of Tasmania and NSW, I ask myself, what is it about Australia and Australians that is so hard for Americans to work out? Is it because we are from "down under" and that seems so remote that we must be a different species? Or is it because we have weird animals that hop instead of run, using their tail for balance? Is it our accents? Jealousy of our beaches? They sleep a...
aussie new yorker: July 2012
http://aussienewyorker.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 28, 2012. The Anesthetist and I were supposed to be in Nantucket by now, home of Moby Dick, briar rose-covered cottages and long, wonderful beaches. But Delta decided to cancel our flight this morning for no reason! So now I have another day to learn the whaling history of this fascinating island. Stay tuned. Links to this post. Sunday, July 22, 2012. The men made dinner one night. Gotta love the preparation they put into it. The presentation looks like a still life! Links to this post.

Wednesday, August 22, 2012. In the Garden of Eden. Is a network of six wonderful historic homes in the Hudson Valley. Its mission is to "celebrate the history, architecture, landscape and the material culture of the Hudson Valley", making sure people like me get to see how the other half lived all those years ago. Last weekend, the Anesthetist decided I was in need of some historical American culture, so he took me to visit Montgomery Place. First glimpse of the house. One of many fish ponds. I went for ...
aussie new yorker: February 2013
http://aussienewyorker.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 17, 2013. I am a downtown girl. No ifs and buts about it. I prefer the low key vibe and village atmosphere. But I have to admit that every now and then there is a teeny bit of Upper East Side in me as well. And when this side of me wants to come out, I head straight to a New York icon; Bemelman's Bar at the Carlyle Hotel on 76th Street. Wednesday, September 26, 2012. I really wanted to go with him to the Synagogue tonight so I could hear the Shofar being blown. The Rabbis used to blow a ram's horn but now it could be made of any material. It has a wonderful history that you can read about here. Links to this post. Wednesday, September 19, 2012. Without a smile - Without a Throe. A Summer's soft Assemblies go. To their entrancing end. Links to this post. Sunday, September 16, 2012. A very special place. All in all, a very green, sere...
aussie new yorker: Optimism
http://aussienewyorker.blogspot.com/2012/10/optimism.html
Sunday, October 21, 2012. I'm not sure how that plays out nationally. I'm guessing New Yorkers' upbeat outlook is substantially higher than say those who live in Detroit or Baton Rouge, mainly because the economy here has shown some potential for growth. But I think it does mirror how outsiders see Americans, as a tirelessly upbeat, happy, positive nation of people. I have always been intrigued by this global perception. Is it true or is it a facade? It makes you feel good about everything you are and do.
aussie new yorker: Summer in Connecticut
http://aussienewyorker.blogspot.com/2012/09/summer-in-connecticut.html
Saturday, September 8, 2012. Last weekend officially marked the end of the Summer season here. It's been too short! No more white, no more early Friday afternoons, no more long, lazy days. To mark this sombre occasion, the Anesthetist decided to take me to Litchfield Hills in Connecticut, a state that borders New York but is so far removed in attitude as to be a distant cousin. Is located, owned by the guy who founded Lambertson Truex, which was sadly, swallowed up by Tiffany after the financial crisis.

Sunday, June 24, 2012. Gone home for a week to kiss hello the aging parentals and cuddle these little wonders. Links to this post. Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Snakes and Ladders without the snakes. Ok I have been living in this city for nearly five years now - when do I become considered a New Yorker? And yet, we all continue to use it. In fact, on average, more than 5.2 million people use it on a week day according to the MTA figures. Out of necessity? Links to this post. Friday, June 15, 2012. If you are...

Friday, April 27, 2012. It's lilac time in New York! I love this time of year as it heralds spring in full bloom, but it is so short. Bursts of purple appear all over the city - like above at my lovely Northern Spy Food Co. Where the anesthetist and I have a yummy breakfast on the way out to the boat - and all over Central Park. May tell me otherwise on that one! Heaven, So now, I love this flower and this color. I even have beautiful lilac-colored linen sheets form Libeco Lagae. My new found love for th...
