Dirt Under My Nails

Dirt Under My Nails. Tuesday, August 4, 2009. There is always a project of some sort going on at our house. Since my last post (almost a month ago) we have begun and completed three landscaping projects. First, we replaced the decaying rail that confined our porch space to about three feet with a curved brick wall that gives us about seven feet of space. Shade path in June 2007. Next, we dug out the paths and laid down weed mats before pouring white marble chips over the weed mats. The rock "shamrock...

Dirt Under My Nails: Starting Out

http://www.dirtundernails.blogspot.com/2009/06/starting-out.html

Dirt Under My Nails. Friday, June 12, 2009. The previous owner of our home was an avid golfer, and had installed Bermuda grass sod the previous year. The house was encircled with standard shrubs: a dozen boxwoods, some sad sandwiched dwarf nandinas, and a host of burning bushes. Add the Bradford Pear trees, a bit of liriope, and one diseased and dying tree, and you get the picture: five species total. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Dirt Under My Nails: A Family Favorite

http://www.dirtundernails.blogspot.com/2009/06/family-favorite.html

Dirt Under My Nails. Thursday, June 25, 2009. It's nearly impossible for me to choose a single flower as my favorite. Often, it's whatever is blooming at the time! But one member of my garden has a special place in my heart. First of all, it's a great Old South plant from my great-grandmother's flowerbed, so there's a family connection. Secondly, it's not terribly common: you can't buy it from Lowe's, or find it in most catalogues. And third, it's absolutely gorgeous! It's my crinum lily.

Dirt Under My Nails: A Beautiful Compromise

http://www.dirtundernails.blogspot.com/2009/06/beautiful-compromise.html

Dirt Under My Nails. Tuesday, June 16, 2009. So, literally one day after the first branch was cut, here's what my talented hubby created! It was Leah's idea to have the ducks crossing the bridge. Perfect! Next on the list: three similarly-constructed tuteurs to support some vines on the other side of the house. Details of that project will be coming soon! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). All the Halls: February 2011

http://thehallsadventure.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. My kids are such a joy. Even in the midst of these challenging years, joy in the tiny moments are {often} enough to keep my heart full. I ran across a journal with a single line for each day - basically a mom's journal with one thought about the day. A dear friend of mine does this, and I think it will be a true gift to my girls. So, I've decided to reflect each day with a thought for each of them. You are a mere nine months old {this week} - I'm not ready for this. When the pa...

All the Halls: August 2012

http://thehallsadventure.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Crazy doesn't even begin to describe how things are for us right now. Our summer has been filled with all kinds of peaks and valleys - which is sincerely hope to update you all on soon. That said, the Tooth "Berry" has been to our house. Twice In two weeks. Yes, although Emma just turned five a couple of weeks ago, she already. Had loose teeth. She got baby teeth very early, so our path to "big girl" teeth is on the same speedy track. Posted by The Halls. Love in the ruins.

All the Halls: Perfection is Paralyzing

http://thehallsadventure.blogspot.com/2012/01/perfection-is-paralyzing.html

Sunday, January 29, 2012. I'm happy to say that I'm dusting off the ol' blog and starting to post again. Yes, there is never enough time. Yes, our life is crazy. But, I think the biggest factor for not posting is perfection. I want to craft perfectly written paragraphs with perfectly taken pictures.and when I can't, I don't. So, here's my less-than-perfect, but otherwise written post. Our weekend was basically a usual Hall weekend - lots of cooking and kid-chasing. Hello, slow cooker. Six loads of laundry.

All the Halls: January 2011

http://thehallsadventure.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 13, 2011. Better late than never, right? It was such a nice Christmas. Although we are always happy to visit family, staying at home for our first Birmingham Christmas was a welcome new addition. No bag packing, kid wrestling, no plotting and scheming.just a little cleaning and we were off to the races. At 7 1/2 months, didn't have a clue about what was going on, but was thrilled to have three more people to entertain. It was such a sweet time, but as with most holidays, it was bittersw...

Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Tales of a Birmingham Burnout. As I read a casual friend's blog this week, I couldn't decide if I should be flattered or frustrated. Described her recent conversation with a woman who she described as clever, quick-witted, creative, a great mom, woman of faith.and uncool? I thought {as that woman}, I would add some thoughts to the matter. We know our neighbors (yay, Crestwood), grow an impressive garden (thanks, hubs), and are part of an organic dairy co-op (happy cows). So, n...

All the Halls: December 2010

http://thehallsadventure.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 10, 2010. A Change Gonna Come. I saw a dear friend today, and she said something that really struck me. We were talking about life and its stages, and she said (to paraphrase), "Not every friendship is meant for a lifetime." It doesn't mean that the friendship didn't serve its purpose, but sometimes people and places aren't meant for forever. This just isn't something I've been able to incorporate without serious angst.yet. Posted by The Halls. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Halls - a s...

Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Dusting Off the Ol' Blog. It's hard to believe that it has been eight months since my last post. Life is crazy at the Hall House (just like your's), but I've been wanting to do a better job of keeping with our little family history. So, our life. Full Beautiful. Thankful. The girls are great. Eleanor's third birthday is peaking around the corner, and Emma has officially fifteen days of kindergarten left. My, how time flies. Here's our life in pictures. Posted by The Halls.

Without further ado, I present to you the much anticipated ballet recital of Emma and friends. Emma's Ballet Recital, May 2011. Posted by The Halls. Tuesday, May 24, 2011. Memories - in memory. Wow Life and death are but a mere moment apart. Steve Malone, my former pastor - a man who taught me, challenged me and married Dugald and I is gone from this world. Let's just say, I never escaped. dirt under my fingernails

Dirt under my fingernails. Sunday, May 27, 2007. The thoughts of leaving and being, the famers' market, sword-fights with clothes hangers, sunshine, birds, walking in my barefeet from church, from class, from about anywhere, air after rain, hugs, the regeneration of toenails, tea and honey, what is happening to the bees?
