Traveling Light: May 2011
http://disruptedroutines.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 22, 2011. Video: Sapa and Area. Some highlights from my trip to Sapa. Saturday, May 21, 2011. A weekend get-away to Sapa was good for the mind, body and spirit. I'd heard and read so much about Sapa and it was high on my list of must-sees for Vietnam. The descriptions of this small town set in the mountains of norther Vietnam seem to always include phrases like "mystical mountain tops," "valley views that will make you swoon," "stunning, towering peaks," etc. It's the summer season in Sapa, w...
Traveling Light: Where in the world is Bobbles?
http://disruptedroutines.blogspot.com/2011/12/where-in-world-is-bobbles.html
Sunday, December 4, 2011. Where in the world is Bobbles? I've been neglectful. Again. Many of you have emailed me over the past few months asking what Bobbles has been up to, and I've neglected to fill you in. It's been an exceptionally busy few months since the return from Vietnam. Yes, Bobbles is back from 'Nam though it appears he's trying to mislead you with the hat and map. Sneaky. So, here's a quick run-down with a lot of photos and very little text. (I know that's the way you like it.). I think th...

Traveling Light: Clear Winners.
http://disruptedroutines.blogspot.com/2011/12/clear-winners.html
Saturday, December 17, 2011. Even though there was no contest or my usual food hunt, I must share some great food finds in NYC. I've spent the past few weeks feeling a bit aimless since I haven't been able to establish a food target that I could focus on and review. It's probably a good thing. But ironically, I just don't seem to learn. Meet the DKA. The outside:. And the lovely innards:. This little bad boy is from Dominque Ansel Bakery. DKA: Dominque's Kouign Amann: tender, flaky, croissant-like dough ...
Traveling Light: Lessons from Afghanistan
http://disruptedroutines.blogspot.com/2012/04/lessons-from-afghanistan.html
Monday, April 16, 2012. I learned many things from my month in Afghanistan and after a month of being home in Canada, I still find myself processing much of what I experienced. Here are a few things I definitely learned or was reminded of:. Things are not as they appear. The human spirit is strong. The determination and pride the Afghan people exhibited was truly inspiring. They are amazingly strong, not to mention incredibly resourceful. Even in desperate times and places, people can be at their warmest.

Blue Canoe: About Us
http://bluecanoetravels.blogspot.com/p/about-us_10.html
Pushing off from shore into unfamiliar waters, we are off to Uganda where we'll be working in a volunteer placement arranged through CUSO/VSO, for two years. We'll be working with teacher training and capacity building to help to improve school life and access to education for children in Gulu northern Uganda. And for us it is a chance for growth and learning. You can't remake the world. Each new era begins within. It is an inward event,. We could use it to turn on. We could use it to use even the dark.
Blue Canoe: On the road to Gulu
http://bluecanoetravels.blogspot.com/2010/12/on-road-to-gulu.html
Thursday, December 9, 2010. On the road to Gulu. Mosque on first hill of old Kampala. Street scene - trying to "get out of Dodge" or "pothole city" as named by a local rock station. Roadside market on the Kampala-Gulu road. Fish anyone? Bus and travellers' stop - fruits, roasted maize or bananas, and roasted "beef" on a stick. Victoria Nile near Karuma Falls on Gulu Road. Momma baboon on the edge of Murchison Falls National Park. Trying to capture the elusive internet signal in front of our house.
Blue Canoe: About Blue Canoe
http://bluecanoetravels.blogspot.com/p/about-us_01.html
Blue canoe could be intimidated by the newer generations of canoes whose designers claim their innovations and materials are far superior to the old clunker models. But why be intimidated if you are seaworthy and have a strong keel. Who says adventure has to be the sole purview of the sleek, new, high tech models? Perhaps all you need is purpose, a few repairs, good paddles and the sense not to venture up a brown creek without them. Be assured though that the words of the song Land of the Silver Birch.

Don't take a hissy fit! Murchison Falls, we climbed down to the bluff on the right. Electrifying (or not) return to the Gulu Primary Teachers College. Good news, bad news. In the next litt...
Blue Canoe: December 2010
http://bluecanoetravels.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 21, 2010. This is REAL AFRICA we are told. Here in the rural and semi rural setting, that is. Power goes off frequently and unexpectedly here in northern Uganda. Hard to use our western technology in a rural subsistence agrarian country. Three days off, and it is completely unnoticed by the majority millions who begin their days with a walk to the nearest borehole to fetch a 20 litre jerry can to be carried on the head back to the village. How heavy is that? Isolated villages, distinctl...

pour your life down the rifle's spiral
Pour your life down the rifle's spiral. But the answer's still the same. I had a lot of fun in the L4D fandom, but I know so few of you now, and fell out of contact for way too long, and for that, I apologize. I’m sure I’ve been deservedly forgotten after being so silent for so long. Hope you all do well with whatever cool things you’re doing! It’s been a blast. Come see me in the Daredevil fandom if you’re interested! NEW HOBBY: Turning neighbors into sims. It's pretty tasty actually. Is honestly one of...

One Dimensional Man | A three-dimensional take on one-dimensional culture
A three-dimensional take on one-dimensional culture. Review: The White Ribbon. Is a film where narrative threads are rarely succinctly tied. A child wears the white ribbon. Village of the Damned. Feels too consciously drawn, and its presence within the film detracts from the dramatic charge of its subject matter. Worthy of note is the picture’s haunting use of mise-en-scene, which manages to captivate the screen with silent authority. It is unusual for a film of Haneke to be so heavily invested in th...

I reject your reality and substitute my own. Si uite asa am devenit si rezident permanent.
Felix is the Pony Prince! Every body is a modified body. A Response to NYC’s Dyke March 2010. June 2, 2010 by ponyprince. I recently heard that NYC’s Dyke March theme was “Barely Legal.” The image is a depiction of a young girl in handcuffs and in print around the photo it states, “Woman Only.” I cannot confirm this otherwise I would upload a photo, but I have something to write to the organizers. None of this is necessarily negative. Dykes explicitly stating their desires for age-play and younger pa...
