A blog about the digital history of Russia and Eurasia. Thursday, December 19, 2013. Quick Hit: ASEEES Paper Topics. I'm hoping to have something a little more in depth about Soviet dissertations and/or quantifying the topics of plagiarized papers in Russia. In the meantime, I have a bit of data from the conferences of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES, the former AAASS), the main scholarly association for Russian and Eurasian studies. For five minutes they run around like mad people. Can that be allowed? This small discovery, part a much bigger research project into the history of the Soviet deaf community, represented a jumping-off point for an exploration of the politics and practices of Soviet deaf space, which has culminated in an article forthcoming in Slavic Review.

A blog about the digital history of Russia and Eurasia. Wednesday, July 17, 2013. Gene Palma and Kevin Bacon's wife (a brief overview of network theory). In the next weeks I am going to post some data about professional networks in Soviet cinema. But before I do that- and while my oldish computer chokes on what is a relatively small data set- I thought I would write up some of the ideas that are informing this project.
