Listen to yourself, man. | District RestauRANTS

https://districtrestaurant.wordpress.com/2012/04/09/listen-to-yourself-man

Chock full of generous tips and dining don'ts for the average D.C. restauranteur. Skip to primary content. Listen to yourself, man. April 9, 2012. Two-part rant today, because I think it’s particularly important that everyone hear both parts. I know, I know. …Um, what? What does this have to do with restaurant gripes? This tidbit of advice also pertains to something else: Languages. I know. Now you’re REALLY confused. What the heck does. Have to do with anything restaurant-related? Let me offer an example.

Chock full of generous tips and dining don'ts for the average D.C. restauranteur. Skip to primary content. Because I know each and every one of you is confused about what exactly constitutes an “appropriate” tip under various circumstances. Don’t worry. So am I. 15%-20% of the total bill (For exceptional service or an especially personable server, tip a dollar or two more. Go ahead. It doesn’t hurt. And it’ll make your server’s day to know s/he made a good impression). Wine served with dinner. At least $...

Chock full of generous tips and dining don'ts for the average D.C. restauranteur. Skip to primary content. My “career” in the service industry has been a circuitous one, beginning during high school with a job at:. After high school, I left for college in Philadelphia and, determined to become a part of a legacy, I “applied” for a waitressing job at. Smokey Joe’s Bar. And so began my legacy as Smokey Joe’s Thursday night side bartender. 8230;Which brings me to my most recent employment at. While each has...

Chock full of generous tips and dining don'ts for the average D.C. restauranteur. Skip to primary content. TIP: DON’T “TIP” USING REAL LIFE ADVICE. THE CONSUMERIST blog gives some horrifying stories about some of humanity’s shining moments in the restaurant industry. Take, for example, the episode of the Capitol Hill waitress who received a tip (in the literal sense) of “ Loose [sic] a few pounds. And waitresses have it easy? GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE. HUNGRY PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. TIP: WAIT YOUR TURN.

#EATiquette | District RestauRANTS

https://districtrestaurant.wordpress.com/2012/05/09/eatiquette

Chock full of generous tips and dining don'ts for the average D.C. restauranteur. Skip to primary content. May 9, 2012. So when I first started this blog, I thought it would be a great place for people to come together and share their experiences in the restaurant industry, like Habermas’s ‘ public sphere. What it turned into (and I’m okay with it) was a place for. Frustrations… and for people to respond to them. Fun for me. Kind of annoying and mundane for everyone else. And so emerged #EATiquette.

SMPASOCIAL: Would have could have

http://smpasocial.blogspot.com/2012/04/would-have-could-have.html

Monday, April 30, 2012. Would have could have. What should I have talked more about this semester? What could I have talked less about? Recently I went to the Sunlight Foundation's Transparency Camp. I was inspired by ideas of open-government, hacking and journalism all working together, access to information, and self-organizing. Should I have included this? Should I have talked more about Facebook? Should I have talked more about the idea of Facebook as a platform. Did we do enough on privacy?

Midwestern Hospitality | St. Louis Confidential

https://stlconfidential.wordpress.com/2012/02/16/midwestern-hospitality

Why St. Louis is an underrated city. Gateway to the Best. The Fabulous Fox Theatre →. February 16, 2012. Waiting ten minutes for the next train is not the end of the world. I’ve literally seen people jump over the sides of escalators to make the train before the doors close. The morning commute in DC can be extremely stressful, and at times I’ve found myself wondering why I live here, after being shoved and packed into a train like sardines. 8221; rather than the competitive “what do you do? A Night at the Movies. The Everlasting Magic of the Movies. Director’s Corner: The Making of A Movie Enthusiast. Photo: Lynette E. Evans. In this blog, I’ll share weekly movie reviews, commentary on my favorite films and unique insights about annual awards ceremonies, box office numbers and occasionally the stars themselves. Did Somebody Say “Scallops”? | farm to fork (DC)

https://farmtoforkdc.wordpress.com/2012/02/19/did-somebody-say-scallops

A little bit of this and a dash of that…. Farm to fork (DC). Did Somebody Say “Scallops”? One of the best things about living on Capitol Hill is having easy access to Eastern Market. I find myself there at least once per weekend to check out the seasonal produce and wander through the flea market. But did you know? Scallops. Big ol’ sea scallops, to be exact. Wrapped in thick cut bacon. Be still my heart. Check out the recipe below, adapted from the one and only Emeril Lagasse. Bam! 1 quart heavy cream.

A little bit of this and a dash of that…. Farm to fork (DC). And Then There Was Red Velvet Cake…. So, there is something that you should know about me. Throughout my baking career, I have made dozens of biscuits, cookies of all kinds, and just about every dessert under the sun. I make a mean cinnamon roll. One time I made a particularly delicious pumpkin caramel apple pie (! But up until last week, I had never made a red velvet cake of my very own. I mean, if I can do it, so can you. About half of one of...

A little bit of this and a dash of that…. Farm to fork (DC). What I Did On My Spring Break: Or, A Few Delicious Things I Ate At Disney World. Last week I had the unbelievable good fortune of being sent to Orlando for work. (Coincidentally, my trip just happened to fall during GWU’s spring break week.). After the conference was over, I spent a couple of extra days exploring Disney World for the first time. I’m a California girl, so Disney Land I understand. But Disney World? But oh man they are good.
