Friday, January 30, 2015. Planning Calico: A Portable On18 Layout. The Calico Gold Company will be a 24" x 60" portable layout in On18 scale. Based loosely upon the Calico Mine Train at Knott's Berry Farm, the layout will also act as a feeder line connecting to the TMMC. Minimum radius on this plan is 10" and the ruling grade is 5%. For a long time, I've been mulling over ideas for a small, portable layout or module. A 1960's vintage postcard of the Calico Mine Train at Knott's. Just as the TMMC atte...

Wednesday, September 10, 2014. Big Thunder Creek: Part I Rock Work. This fall I'll be finishing the scenery around Big Thunder Creek, a major scene on the Thunder Mesa section of the railroad. Thunder Mesa Mining Co.: Building a Portable Backdrop
http://thundermesaminingco.blogspot.com/2015/03/building-portable-backdrop.html
Friday, March 20, 2015. Building a Portable Backdrop. This new 3' x 6' portable backdrop will provide improved viewing and photo opportunities on the layout, especially for scenes where no permanent backdrop is possible. Eventually, the TMMC will be surrounded on three sides by a painted backdrop. Clamped in place to dry overnight. For the base sky color, I chose Behr "Bliss Blue" interior flat latex paint. It provides a nice contrast with my red rock scenery and I will use it for all of the backdrop...
