The history of a blacksmithing family. The Bennett family appear in the trade directories for Docking as blacksmiths from 1830 till 1929. The Plough Commercial Inn. Using the census returns and parish registers we can establish that John and Rose Bennett came to Docking from Snettisham in 1827-28 and set up a blacksmith’s shop near to the Plough Inn in Church Street, now Chequers Street. Mapping the spread of Docking. Through map regression (ie the examination of as many maps from different points in time as possible, starting with the most recent and working back chronologically) our aim is to discover how the layout and character of the village has changed over the past 400 years. We do this with particular reference to fields, roads, the railway, the built environment and provision for the poor. The maps we will focus on initially are likely to be the following:. 1600 Fold Course Map.

We have a film reader with the following registers available on microfilm: Baptisms 1869-79 and 1880-1895; Marriages 1813-37, 1837-90 and 1900-1910; Burials 1813-1864. Also if you follow this link.
