In 1985 much against the views of my family, I fulfilled my childhood dream and joined the Metropolitan Police. Being a BME officer just didn’t cut with the hardships and racism they had faced when they first arrived in the UK from their homes in British Guyana as part of Britain’s Windrush generation.
