All 'Murrican: October 2013

Sunday, October 27, 2013. Action Day Rewind: Attitude. Because we're members of an obedience club, we are lucky subscribers to the clubs newsletter. The first issue that we received was the last of the former editor's. In the "letter from the editor" she referenced a previous article that I dug up and have re-read over and over and over. And I believe that it shapes my agility attitude more than anything else. He drove ahead of me and took those jumps with speed. Some of the most meaningful compliments I...

Listen – Unstoppable Dogs
https://unstoppabledogs.com/2015/05/28/listen
Meg and Bolt: Agility, Adventures, and Everything Inbetween. Seminars and Workshops, oh my! Two walks of shame. Another dicey contact performance. The silence between us was louder than anything else. We lost our ability to understand each other in those few days. He was basically screaming at me that he was stressed last weekend. I was too focused on the silence. Too focused on what the results of the stress looked like. Did he miss it? What am I doing wrong? He hit all his contacts before– always!

Marley's Adventures: February 2015
http://marleysadventures.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. We did Marley's favorite thing today. I signed her up for the 300 yard course and at the last minute it was decided she could do the 600 yard course. She loved it! I mentioned before the event how I couldn't let her see the course because she would go ballistic! This is such a fun activity for all dogs. I saw a tiny chihuahua run the 300 yard course and she was awesome! Thanks to Joyce for taking such nice photos of both Marley and Piek. Marley at full speed. He is fantastic ...

Marley's Adventures: December 2013
http://marleysadventures.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 30, 2013. Good Grief.Where does the time go? Wow, I just realized I haven't blogged since October! Quite a bit has happened since my last blog post. Marley and I have spent time enjoying the nice weather. We've been hiking along the American River. The river is very low this year and there are a ton of dead Salmon along the edge. Marley is in heaven! Rolling in smelly stuff is fun! Squirrels are very feisty this time of year and Marley is determined to catch one! Links to this post.

Marley's Adventures: August 2013
http://marleysadventures.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 12, 2013. We'll get to class (Agility or Nosework) and I'll take her to potty. She'll run in and lift her leg (yes, my female lifts her leg) and she tries to run to class. I'll look at the spot where she fake-peed and it's dry. I'm a bit surprised my dog has started faking it during potty time. It totally reminds me of being a kid on the way to Disneyland. I'm tickled she loves class as much as I used to love Disneyland. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Find us on Facebook.
All 'Murrican: December 2014
http://allmurrican.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 3, 2014. To Seminar, or Not to Seminar, That is the Question. As a kid, I liked going to school. I was the nerdy kid who took extra classes instead. Yet I find myself being incredibly selective about which seminars I will enroll in. Murray completing an exercise at the awesome Nancy Gyes/Jim Basic Seminar. At Happy Dog (photo credit: Mia Grant). Rather than feeling excited and motivated following. Why did I feel that way? I was not physically nor mentally prepared for the seminar.

Thursday, November 20, 2014. Dogwalk Re-Training - 4 weeks in. We've been working on the dogwalk for nearly 4 weeks now. A few observations. Again, all of the videos are being posted here - Dogwalk Re-Train. 1 I'm going to do a 2on/2off. I had initially planned to do running, but I don't know if I'll ever fully trust the criteria, and as a result may ultimately slow Murray down. So I think 2on/2off may be faster for him, even though I can almost always beat him to the bottom of the dogwalk. 5 Record keep...

Remembering Sullivan’s First Agility Trial. November 16, 2013. As the time approached for our first run, I was getting so nervous! What was going to happen? Would Sullivan stay in the ring? Would she do the course? In Florida most of the trials are outdoors and that means the bathrooms are Port a Potties Yuck but I will admit I used that outdoor bathroom more times that day than I probably had in my whole life! Finally it was our turn to go. All of the training went right out the window! That first trial...

Books you may find useful. Run fast, run clean! Dog training–what to wear? I like to have clothes with LOTS of pockets when I’m training. I have pants with nice deep zippered pockets that I wear. I have fleece vests and jackets with nice deep pockets. And in the warmer weather I wear bike jerseys, because they have HUGE pockets that will hold treats and a toy and a poop bag. Take, for example, this bike jersey: Pink sleeveless bike jersey. It also comes in blue.). Categories: Dog agility products. I trie...
