Doing technology ...: Cloud Natives
http://www.doingtechnology.net/2016/03/cloud-natives.html
This is a down to earth, slightly cynical blog about the human side of technology, specifically the people who work with enterprise IT infrastructure. Wednesday, March 16, 2016. While many established organisations are travelling their own “journey to the cloud”, many younger companies will be waiting for them when they arrive. Cloud native companies are not providers of cloud services, they are consumers. The are ordinary businesses that just happen to have used cloud technology from the beginning.
Doing technology ...: September 2014
http://www.doingtechnology.net/2014_09_01_archive.html
This is a down to earth, slightly cynical blog about the human side of technology, specifically the people who work with enterprise IT infrastructure. Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Technology or staff capability. When I was much younger then I am now had a casual interest in photography. I read a few books, experimented with a black and white darkroom, and managed to save up enough to purchase my own Nikon SLR camera. Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Links to this post. Doing technology ...: May 2014

This is a down to earth, slightly cynical blog about the human side of technology, specifically the people who work with enterprise IT infrastructure. Friday, May 23, 2014. Who do I get to do this? This is a surprisingly simply question, "who should be in charge of system X or doing task Y? You see this question recycled every so often on line in the form of. Should the CIO report to the CEO or CFO. Who should manage inter site links, Network or Storage? What I don't see is the question.
Doing technology ...: Doing the wrong thing well
http://www.doingtechnology.net/2016/03/doing-wrong-thing-well.html
This is a down to earth, slightly cynical blog about the human side of technology, specifically the people who work with enterprise IT infrastructure. Wednesday, March 9, 2016. Doing the wrong thing well. IT people spend a lot of time and effort to avoid outages. To do so we buy on redundant everything, run backups and test Disaster Recovery (DR) plans, and follow the change control precesses. For a large company with a significant US presence, this was a very serious issue. Right now many of you are thi...
Doing technology ...: The system administrator as the purchaser of IT services.
http://www.doingtechnology.net/2015/07/the-system-administrator-as-purchaser.html
This is a down to earth, slightly cynical blog about the human side of technology, specifically the people who work with enterprise IT infrastructure. Wednesday, July 1, 2015. The system administrator as the purchaser of IT services. An alternative title would be “who holds the purse strings in smaller IT shops”. Who will own the budget here? Will the sysadmin need to understand the budget as part of the role? Will the IT manager be required to approve any change with a potential cost impact? Larger more...

epistemology of teaching | for the sake of active padagogy
For the sake of active padagogy. February 6, 2012. Badges are a new thing in education. See here https:/ wiki.mozilla.org/Badges or here http:/ www.dmlcompetition.net/. In an online class, I envision using dadges could be used in two ways:. 1 similar to a. Or achievement. A good example can be from a movie UP: one of the characters Russell has plenty of badges yet he does not have one that is “helps the elderly”. So having a badge means “You have done it! 8221; or “You can do it”. Badges is a signal of s...

Doing technology ...
This is a down to earth, slightly cynical blog about the human side of technology, specifically the people who work with enterprise IT infrastructure. Thursday, March 24, 2016. I was reminded recently of the importance of ‘why’. It is a word that gets a bad reputation. Everyone is familiar with the image of a child that repeatedly asks why to everything the parent says. As a parent, I can verify this does happen, just like on television. Why is also the cause. Why did something happen? Keep asking why, g...

Doing Tha' Deal: Insight, Advice and Rumor from a Small Business Deal Junkie
Thoughts and ramblings (as well as some rumour and innuendo) from a small business deal junkie! Wednesday, March 08, 2006. Most of these post suck anyways.
