Donegal Wildlife: October 2014
http://donegal-wildlife.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
A regularly updated pictorial narrative of the wildlife around Raphoe, Co. Donegal, Ireland. Tuesday, 14 October 2014. I postponed my proposed trip to Ards since the dry weather continued and there wasn't much sign of fungal activity. But the 'lure of the west' called me and since I had also agreed to make a radio piece about foraying, the trip eventually went ahead. As expected, the overall number of fungal bodies was very low, but there was still the usual great variety of species. Fox Moth larvae are ...

Donegal Wildlife: Spring
http://donegal-wildlife.blogspot.com/2015/04/spring.html
A regularly updated pictorial narrative of the wildlife around Raphoe, Co. Donegal, Ireland. Wednesday, 1 April 2015. Spring is very late this year. I currently have Lesser Celandine, Barren Strawberry and Wood Sorrel in flower, but little else apart from Daisy and Dandelion, which are in flower here all year round. Willow catkins have just opened and I have seen a few queen bumblebees foraging for pollen to start their nests. First hoverfly was a female Eristalis tenax. As is usual every year. The speci...

Life On An Oxfordshire Lawn. An amateur works out what lives in his garden. Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Comma butterfly Polygonia c-album. I am an amateur naturalist trying to learn something about everything living in my garden. January is seeing heavy snow falls in the UK and as I write there is more than a foot of snow in my garden. To remind us of those balmy summer afternoons during these dark winter days therefore, a picture of a butterfly on the buddleia bush. In the early 19th century Commas were...

Observations of Wildlife and Nature in my home village of Lancing, West Sussex. Sunday, December 30, 2007. Sighted an active butterfly. In a warm sheltered area of South Lancing, flight was near a house wall with plenty of green shrubbery near by. I can't confirm species but most likely a Red Admira. Continuing mild with lighter winds today, despite feeling the symptoms of a winter cold I went out yesterday and cleared a few leaves from one of my garden contract jobs. Friday, December 28, 2007. On lookin...
