Monday, July 31, 2006. Now we are in Surat Thani which is not in the least touristy, it makes a nice change to experience a more realistic view of Thai life. Today we were at the bus station and encountered lots more scammers. Posted by Alan at 7:25 AM. Wednesday, July 12, 2006. Sample images from first few days:. 1st picture is a stupid giant head symbolising something (probably). Then is Steven posing with the Thai flag and finally is a building inside the Grand Palace compound. View my complete profile.

Monday, October 16, 2006. This is a view of some of the crowd enjoying a boat race on the Mekong river. This is Pha That Luang, the most holy Buddist site in Laos. I forget the name of this stupa but the tuk tuk driver obscured my view of it, but I like the picture anyway. The following day, the 10th of October we decided to do the walking tour Lonely Planet set out for Vientaine. Only we decided to do it on bikes! Thursday, August 31, 2006. There was also an aquarium in the basement of the shopping centre which was pretty interesting. Pictured are spider crabs. Our day in the shopping district was pretty interesting because we got a chance to see Thai people in their day to day lives, instead of the ones that are always dealing with tourists on Khao Sarn Road. So the floating market itself was a bit of a bust but it was nice and peaceful in the quiet parts. Posted by Alan at 11:44 PM. Saturday, August 26, 2006.

Wednesday, December 27, 2006. Hoan Kim Lake in the heart of the Old Quarter of Hanoi. We arrived in the tiny Vientaine International Airport in plenty of time and before long we were winging our way to Vietnam's capital, Hanoi. We had barely taken off before we seemed to be making our way back down, and I decided to whip out the trusty Lonely Planet and see if we could rustle up somewhere to stay. Hoan Kim Lake as seen from the restaurant we ate in. Hoan Kiem Lake after night had fallen. For some reason ...
