Spring is almost upon us! June 15, 2013: OPENING DAY FOR THE DOUGLAS HISTORICAL SOCIETY FARMERS MARKET! Our committee has been hard at work all winter bringing in a variety of vendors, educational programs, etc. Be sure to check out the Farmers Market Facebook Page for updated information. The E N. Jenckes Store Museum. During the 1830s when the village of East Douglas was becoming the economic center of the town, Ebenezer Balcom opened a small store at the comer of Main and Pleasant (now Depot) streets. Later, Gardner Chase bought the property and enlarged the building as his business expanded to meet the needs of the growing community. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor. Douglas fireman with their Fire King engine about 1900. A hand pumper, the Fire King required at least twelve men to operate. The old firehouse, located on Cottage street, is now used only for storage. The building at left, the Old Town Hall, is no longer standing.
