WOOD TURNING,PHOTOGRAPHY and BICYCLING, My Passions. Wednesday, August 21, 2013. My first full year of doing steep climbs on a bicycle in the Mountains of NC. From August of 2012 to August of 2013. Crossing finish line at the Blue Ridge Breakaway. While I have done 10 bicycle rides in the mountains I have done a lot more in and around my home in Lancaster and Charleston. My goal for another year is to lose more weight so I can climb faster. I also hope to get a bike setup especially for hill climbing...

WOOD TURNING,PHOTOGRAPHY and BICYCLING, My Passions. Tuesday, June 26, 2012. The Cape Hattera Lighthouse as it is seen today in its new location. It was moved some years ago to keep it away from the ocean. like what happen to the Morris Island Lighthouse in Charleston. This is a picture I took of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse back in the late 1960s. There has been some dramatic changes in the beach since that time. The Lighthouse at Ocracoke NC. Another view of the Ocracoke Light house as seen today.

WOOD TURNING,PHOTOGRAPHY and BICYCLING, My Passions. Tuesday, June 18, 2013. West Michigan MS Bike Ride in Holland Mi. On June the 8. I did my first MS bicycle charity ride since 2007. I travel to Holland Michigan to do this ride. I first stop and stayed several days with my daughter who lives in Westland Michigan. The morning of June the 8. The video is a little long but I decided I did not want to edit it down more as I want to remember this ride. It meant a lot to me just to be able to do it. Trademar...

Robbie Graham's blog: Yew Vessel

http://robbie-graham.blogspot.com/2010/03/yew-vessel.html

Artist Woodturner from New Zealand. Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Finish: Haarlem oil and wax. This is another three-sided piece using multi axis, three top and three bottom plus the centre for the rounded form and turning the inside. I haven't turned much yew and found this piece beautiful to turn. The fine grain works well with this small piece, one of the smallest pieces in this series. C and C welcome. Robbie Graham's blog: July 2009

http://robbie-graham.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Artist Woodturner from New Zealand. Monday, July 20, 2009. New piece of woodturning. Texture: Pyrography and painted. I turned this out of a piece of wet Rhododendron to about 2mm thick and let it dry before doing the pyrography. It has a rounded bottom, which makes it rock if bumped, hence the name Balance. The photo isn't the best sorry. I found that no mater what light source I used the pale wood over exposed and if I set the exposure for the bottom part of the vessel the picture came out too dark!

Artist Woodturner from New Zealand. Wednesday, August 25, 2010. Turning over a new leaf". New piece called "Turning over a new leaf. The piece is Tawa and Jarrah. It is about 350mm long and is off set turned to 8mm at the thick end and 3mm at the small end. The pieces of wood are leftovers from mutant two. I must admit I nearly gave up on this piece as It went through a stage where I hated it but I'm glad I persevered and finished it. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Artist Woodturner from New Zealand. Thursday, May 20, 2010. Woods: Vessel, Matai. Leaf and Stem, Jarrah and Tawa and the tongue, Rewarewa driftwood. Artist Woodturner from New Zealand. Sunday, May 17, 2009. Richard Raffan's tubes on the last NZ Creative Wood Magazine and tubes by Dick Veitch inspire this piece. I wanted to have a go at one for a while, so here is my version of a tube. It is turned from green branch Rhododendron that had a bend in it and was hoping that the stress in the bend would allow it to distort when dry. Links to this post. Sunday, May 10, 2009. Artist Woodturner from New Zealand. Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Wood: Matai and driftwood. I turned this piece using waste wood to create the three sides instead of turning on three axis. I could get the wall thickness even this way with out having to carve the inside. The process needs refining and think it will be a lot easier next time. Links to this post. Artist Woodturner from New Zealand. Saturday, April 10, 2010. Lake Taupo Woodturning Jamboree 2010. Another great Jamboree has come and gone. We have had great feedback from quite a few participants which is great. There were forty five lathes this year, which was up on last year and it was great to see nearly all used. I would like to thank Roger Maybe from the Hawke’s Bay club for bringing extra lathes. Looking forward to the next one and maybe I’ll get a bit more turning done! Links to this post.
