Missives from a progressive patriot south of I-80. Friday, June 18, 2004. Highly decorated Illinois soldier killed in Iraq. A highly decorated soldier from Lake Zurich was killed in Iraq. Major Paul Syverson III, died when his base 50 miles north of Baghdad was hit by a rocket. Syverson, who was injured while serving in Afghanistan, was scheduled to come home in two weeks. Downstate sends condolences to the family, including the baby girl who will never know her father. Posted by Swiss Lucy at 1:18 PM.
