Spring Break: Sinai | adventures in the land of pyramids and mummies
https://dpoljak.wordpress.com/2009/05/03/spring-break-sinai
Adventures in the land of pyramids and mummies. Tales from my time in Egypt. As I’ve already mentioned, I had the opportunity to go to the Sinai Peninsula for my spring break here. The trip consisted of three parts: an Ecolodge in the mountains, Mount St. Catherine, and Dahab (as well as Sharm El-Sheikh a little). One of our Bedouin guides that led us on a small hike to an abandoned village nearby. View of St. Catherine from the mountain. The boardwalk, lined with shops and restaurants. First Week: The C...

Adventures in the land of pyramids and mummies. Tales from my time in Egypt. The first few days. After a day and a half of travel, the other students and I. Made it to Alexandria! The flight from JFK to Cairo was over 11 hours long, and then we took a van from Cairo to Alexandria, which was another couple of hours. Needless to say, the journey was long and arduous! The dorm is the building in the center of the map, directly across from the labeled “A”. The building is absolutely huge! However, the view o...

Final Bus Total | Viajes en Chile
https://abdappen.wordpress.com/2009/07/18/final-bus-total
My year studying in Chile. July 18, 2009. Over the year, I tallied roughly 348.5 hours on long-distance buses! That’s the equivalent of 14.5 solid days on a bus, or 4% of my year abroad! Still, I have to concede defeat in my competition with Meredith who, during her year, spent over 400 hours traveling on buses. Truly impressive! Laquo; Villa Huidif and the Camera Wars. My year studying in Chile. July 9, 2009. Villa Huidif and the Camera Wars. Well, it’s that time of the year again: finals! Which means that, having finished stalking friends on facebook, answered all me emails, and stared at the ceiling for long periods of time in search of procrastion, I’m now faced with the two choices that remain: do my homework, or update my blog. I’ll do my homework later. For our last day, we each brought our cameras to take a few pictures. This is what I learned:. On July 10, 2009.

My year studying in Chile. Photo credits to my dad, Lilly, Alex, and Kate! Hiking Antuco with faithful walking sticks Doom Slayer and Rose. Lunching just below the summit. A tour van at Aconcagua.the word corny comes to mind. My year studying in Chile. June 23, 2009. Visiting a Mapuche community north of Temuco. On Sunday, it was back to the books. We are coming down the home stretch of classes for the semester, so the workload has spiked a bit. Two of my classes ended unexpectedly today, so that was a nice surprise to start off my week! Two more classes left, plus a handful of projects and essays. Laquo; Bariloche RAGE! Why you shouldn’t drink and drive. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.
Why you shouldn’t drink and drive | Viajes en Chile
https://abdappen.wordpress.com/2009/07/03/why-you-shouldnt-drink-and-drive
My year studying in Chile. July 3, 2009. Why you shouldn’t drink and drive. Tuesday night, one of the boys in the pension decided to pull a little joke by leaving a cassette tape in the microwave. Unfortunately, he forgot that we have a psychotic microwave that randomly turns itself on whenever it feels like it and runs for 10-15 minute intervals. In the middle of the night, Jacqui runs into the kitchen to find black smoke billowing out of the microwave…both tape and machine were toast. Alex on Bariloche...
Bariloche RAGE! | Viajes en Chile
https://abdappen.wordpress.com/2009/05/26/bariloche-rage
My year studying in Chile. May 26, 2009. The Chileans had a four-day weekend to celebrate the navy’s glories at sea (not sure if said glories are numerous enough to merit such a long holiday, but we’ll roll with it), so Victor, Catherine, and I extended our break to five days and headed south and east to Bariloche, Argentina for some hiking. The third day, we had better luck with the weather and, emerging from the hut, we got our first clear view of the panorama surrounding us:. View of Refugio Frey.

My year studying in Chile. Allison continues her tradition of photo theft to prove that she actually is living in Chile, and not just sending out postcards purchased online. Thanks in advance to Catherine, Victor, and Kate who lent their awesome photo skills to this page! Me, Catherine, and Victor.we are a strange bunch. Hiking in Curinanco - not quite as steep as the picture makes it look. Jumping, as usual. Me taking pictures as usual (on Volcan Puyehue).Victor manages to make it look epic.

Adventures in the land of pyramids and mummies. Tales from my time in Egypt. Bull;May 8, 2009 • Leave a Comment. Here are some interesting little factoids I’ve learned in/about Egypt:. You can never have enough sugar in your drink. Any Egyptian prepared fresh juice is most likely to have more sugar than actual fruit and tea always needs to have at least three spoons of it. Yup, no tomato sauce on Egyptian pizza. One does, however, receive ketchup to eat with ones pizza. Taxis do not have meters, as they ...
European Union and Croatia
Croatia got EU entry timetable… Now what? November 6, 2008. Yesterday Croatia has been given EU entry timetable. The European Commission claims it’s not “a blank check”, Paris and Berlin repeat their “no Lisbon – no enlargement” rhetoric, Ljubljana blocks chapters and Zagreb promises to fight corruption. So, nothing new from Brussels… If everything goes well (and I certainly hope it will), Croatia will end… » read more. European Union and Croatia. EU and the world - from a Croatian perspective.
