Subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) featuring so strongly on government agendas. I have found my chosen studies and career enormously satisfying. Proficiency in physics brings greater insights and understanding in all of the sciences, and provides excellent opportunities for applying mathematical techniques. Will private tuition help? | drdeblogs
https://drdeblogs.wordpress.com/2014/01/11/will-private-tuition-help
Thoughts from a tutor and STEM ambassador. Will private tuition help? January 11, 2014. Below I have listed key points worth bearing in mind before contacting a tutor:. 1 Remember it’s tuition, not magic! 2 Make use of all available resources. 3 Confirm the student is committed. 4 Does it make financial sense? Tuition is expensive so it may be that only a limited number of sessions are possible. In this case, I recommend discussing with your tutor how best to schedule your sessions. It may seem n...The i...

Thoughts from a tutor and STEM ambassador. Black holes and unbreakable rules. March 1, 2014. Josh’s ability to think differently and ignore traditional boundaries made him interesting company and a friend to almost everyone. But navigating the school system required a degree of conformity that did not come naturally to him. Josh liked to flex the rules, not for the sake of delinquency but driven by a desire to innovate. Sadly, not all rules are flexible. The Dangerous Behaviours Foundation. March 1, 2014.

Thoughts from a tutor and STEM ambassador. My Tips for Tackling Exams. January 27, 2014. These tips were written with physics and maths exams in mind but many of them are more generally applicable. If you have an exam technique that works for you, stick with it. For those looking for advice, here are my suggestions:. Thoughts from a tutor and STEM ambassador. Should you revise your revision plan? April 6, 2014. Now that Spring has sprung, many students face the prospect of navigating several weeks of school holiday and study leave. Planning how to structure this time can be daunting—all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy but how much leisure time can you afford in the run up to exams? Think about the times of day you prefer to study and plan around fixed points. By all means listen to music but otherwise. If ther...

Thoughts from a tutor and STEM ambassador. Minding our stereotypical language. January 25, 2014. I have been delighted at the recent rise in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities in my local schools. Children are being introduced to these subjects from nursery classes upwards and, judging from the enthusiastic response I’ve seen when visiting as a STEM ambassador, teachers are doing an amazing job. 8212;I’m trying not to take offence! The Power of Maths | drdeblogs
https://drdeblogs.wordpress.com/2014/02/23/the-power-of-maths
Thoughts from a tutor and STEM ambassador. The Power of Maths. February 23, 2014. My kids have invented a number called “one-finity”. It seems to be bigger than any other number they know but still finite, so they could theoretically have one-finity chocolate bars or one-finity birthday presents. It’s a word I hear frequently and I wonder if they’ll eventually brainwash me into using it. Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about maths education. How can we improve students’ experience? The list goes on.

We were talking about families and started in on her family. I knew that her dad was Hispanic, but she has a much darker skin tone than he. I asked her if her mom was brown like her and her response was yes . I looked at the aide and replied, yep, we are the same color . Then she tells me, but she has a pink face .
