Dumpling in a Hanky: October 2014
http://dumplinginahanky.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Dumpling in a Hanky. Meandering waffle about libraries, law, geekery and occasional crafting. Monday, October 06, 2014. An opportunity for the Law Society? Right on their doorstep, they could invest in an unusual bit of property, and buy their own Tardis. In the form of an old Edinburgh police call box. They only need to find £15,000-£20,000, and they could be running their own coffee booth in no time! Form an orderly queue with your suggestions for legal/coffee based pun names. Links to this post.
Dumpling in a Hanky: January 2015
http://dumplinginahanky.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Dumpling in a Hanky. Meandering waffle about libraries, law, geekery and occasional crafting. Friday, January 02, 2015. Another year, another new start. As 2014 changes into 2015, my employment will be changing too, as I'll shortly be starting another role in a new workplace. So, what will I be doing for the rest of 2015? The prospect is simultaneously both quite exciting, and quite scary - it's more responsibility than I've ever had before, but I'm ready to go in and librarian my ass off!
Dumpling in a Hanky: The female vote
http://dumplinginahanky.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-female-vote.html
Dumpling in a Hanky. Meandering waffle about libraries, law, geekery and occasional crafting. Sunday, April 12, 2015. Last week, UKIP unveiled their latest policies. To try and gain votes in the upcoming General Election. These policies were aimed at attracting "the female vote". The policies cover maternity leave, childcare.and the tax on sanitary products. There's nothing new about this technique of political parties publicising specific policies targeting women: in February the pink minibus of Labour.

Dumpling in a Hanky. Meandering waffle about libraries, law, geekery and occasional crafting. Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Living in interesting times. As you’ll have seen if you've been reading this blog this year, it’s been a bit of a bumpy professional time for me recently. The rapid entry of my long-term employer into administration in March, and the changes it brought about, have certainly seen me living through “. I've been in a job where I became completely disempowered and began to doubt my own ...

Dumpling in a Hanky. Meandering waffle about libraries, law, geekery and occasional crafting. Wednesday, November 12, 2014. So, this is one of the adverts that so annoyed me, for Barclays Digital Eagles. But this is where I get frustrated with the initiative. Did nobody at Barclays realise that an infrastructure to support these activities, and experienced staff were already available.in public libraries? We'd still get the excellent PR of our name being associated with something that's being done for th...

Jenny's Cabinet of Curiosities: Summer Endings
http://jennyscabinetofcuriosities.blogspot.com/2015/07/summer-endings.html
Jenny's Cabinet of Curiosities. Sunday, 26 July 2015. So this summer I finally cut my ties with CILIP. It had been a close thing, I hadn't really made up my mind until the day the renewal was due. I had given it a fair amount of thought over the last year, normally around the same time I added another copy of Update to my never decreasing 'to read' pile. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Jenny's Cabinet of Curiosities. Tuesday, 24 March 2015. UXLibs: Part One: A Personal Reflection. I nearly always blog about my conferences. It seems to be almost ingrained in me and dates back to those times when as a new professional I was often attending conferences on bursaries or through sponsorship. So memorable for lots of reasons! 30 April 2015 at 23:33. Your fear of presenting did not show. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). UXLibs: Part One: A Personal Reflection. Dumpling in a Hanky.

Falling out of love with traditional presenting. On: July 15, 2015. Well, I’ve been having an affair. As a learner, I definitely prefer this approach (which I appreciate may skew my opinion). During the Clore Leadership Short Course. But in future I’ll definitely be considering when honing my facilitation skills may be more appropriate than honing my presentation skills. What do you think? Do you prefer presenting or facilitating? Any tips for developing my facilitating skills? This work by Jo Alcock.

Clore Leadership Short Course. On: May 5, 2015. Back in February I attended one of the Clore Leadership Short Courses. Authentic leadership is something I first learnt about at the CILIP in Wales Conference in 2012, and was a common theme through many of the presentations there. I’ve since included some reading on authentic leadership for the Library Leadership Reading Group. Importance of story telling. And hope to continue to develop my coaching skills further. 28 February 2016 at 3:02pm. I'm a researc...

Library Leadership Reading Group #llrg. On: June 10, 2012. Following some discussions at the CILIP in Wales Conference on leadership, there seem to be a number of people interested in reading books/articles on leadership as part of a reading group. I put together a list of any of the works mentioned from the conference and shared it as a Google Document. Which others have added to (and added their details if they are interested in joining in). Can I join in? What will it involve? Reading the book/article...

5 myths about chairing committees. On: April 4, 2013. My three year term on the CILIP West Midlands. Committee has come to an end (two years as Marketing Officer, one year as Chair), and I only have a few months left chairing the ALA NMRT Online Discussion Forum. Committee, so I thought it would be a good time to reflect on my experiences and dispel some myths about chairing committees I’ve come across during my time as chair. Only businessmen over 50 can join committees. Which contains all the informati...
