Dundas, Ontario, Canada. The two most common turtle species seen in Dundas are the Snapping Turtle and Midland Painted Turtle. You may be lucky enough to see a Map Turtle or Blanding’s Turtle. You may also encounter a red-eared slider, a species not native to Ontario, abandoned by irresponsible pet owners. Blanding’s Turtle with Painteds. Snapping turtle nests contain up to 50 round eggs, which look a bit like ping-pong balls. Three to fourteen elliptical creamy white eggs are laid by painted turtles.

Each morning and evening during turtle nesting season, we monitor the roads running through a wetland area at the West end of Dundas. We keep records of every turtle seen, alive or dead. Dundas, Ontario, Canada. A very good year for Dundas Turtle Watch: During the 2015 nesting season, Dundas Turtle Watchers observed 41 live adult turtles, 22 of which were nesting. Six turtles in danger were moved to safety. Four adult turtles were killed on the roads patrolled by Turtle Watch. Nesting season is over for this year and Dundas Turtle Watch is taking a ‘Summer break’. We anticipate starting up again sometime in September, when hatchlings emerge from their nests.
