Design Context: May 2010

Thursday, 27 May 2010. Using these silhouettes is a pretty effective way of showing the design in context and to what scale. This design is documenting the shape of the moon throughout the year 2000. Again, I like the way this becomes like an obsessive documentation process, and the detail makes it seem like a really authentic piece of design. The same can be said for this, which details loads of different chairs. There's a real sense of collection which is quite revealing/intrusive. Monday, 17 May 2010.

Sunday, 5 December 2010. A selection of images/illustrations that I think are quite interesting. This is quite interesting and relevant to the dice project I was going to do. I like the patterns made by the dots and again the idea of connections. Something really simple but curious. By taking paper that is already printed onto and crafting with it this adds a layer of interest. Layering of illustration, experimenting with the opacity of stock. Gives the impression of perspective.

Sunday, 5 December 2010. Interesting structure to the diagram, sort of looks like a biological diagram of how things are all connected/how things have evolved etc. Like the circle structure to this and that it's actually been made, has a very contemporary feel to it. the colours seem well established yet quirky? Again, very contemporary colour scheme. quite slick. Like the first diagram this looks like a diagram explaining into the connections of things, but theres also a lot of freedom/movement in it.

Thursday, 4 November 2010. Photos for scuba guide. Photograph of cave diving. What I like about this photograph is that there is an element of wanting to see more. Having the scuba divers within shot is a bit of a teaser because it makes me think about what they could be seeing. Sea turtles on the reef. Tuesday, 2 November 2010. Lists of dive locations for each type of dive. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Contextual and Theoretical Studies. Photos for scuba guide. Lists of dive locations for each type of.

Sunday, 28 February 2010. Http:/ wvs.topleftpixel.com/flash/cntower timelapse.swf. The interaction of this website is pretty interesting. Saturday, 27 February 2010. Going down the route of classic British comedy was looking to be one of our favourites. Seeing this has sort of put a downer on it since they seemed to have covered it, but it's good to know that we identified the kind of comedy they are likely to refer to. i.e. only fools and horses. Past Theme - London. Some images from a past store openin...

Friday, 30 April 2010. Design Hero no.1. I really love this piece of work. I saw it a couple of months ago and was just amazed. When we were first told we could write our own brief and do whatever we wanted it was this piece of work which really influenced what I wrote for myself. This is definitely the kind of aesthetics I want to produce for my brief. The designer is: Johnny Kelly. Another example of his work is called 'procrastination' which is also brilliant. Friday, 12 March 2010. This is so intense, and there is so much detail to it. It's possibly too intimidating, it's obvious from a glance that's it's complex and that might put some people off actually watching it. Still, it's pretty impressive. If you want to see it larger go here:. Http:/ www.seens.org/download/mousetrap.gif. The content of Rube Goldbergs illustrations are of the same nature as Heath Robinsons. Some of Goldbergs aren't as easy to understand. Saturday, 6 March 2010. Thursday, 4 March 2010.

Wednesday, 20 January 2010. Artwork from the label. The type used is quite varied, however most of the examples are similar in the fact that the type is very bold and solid. Some choose to use a typeface which appears hand crafted or stencils, but the protagonists use a type face that seems to be computer generated. I need to consider this when choosing my own typeface. Tuesday, 19 January 2010. Monday, 18 January 2010. The second image was important as it reassured me that I didn't necessarily have to u...

Design Context: layouts
http://e-price0811-dc.blogspot.com/2010/12/layouts.html
Saturday, 4 December 2010. Some interesting print layouts, mixture of both type and image. Eventhough there is clearly a lot of text to this layout the designer has managed to break it up really well. Maybe by changing the colour of some of the body copy so that it isn't all one tone. Also by including reverse out block in the center of columns it helps to divide it. Really clear information, good heirarchy, interesting colour scheme. Lots of white space, creates sense of expense.
