Lingering Lunacy : February 2015
http://lingeringlunacy.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
A record of, and ruminations on, the building and enjoyment of my boats. Sunday, February 22, 2015. UNA's winter "To Do List" is actually shrinking. Most of the tasks have been subtle refinements like loops for the reefing crinkles along with rings and snap hooks for easier use of that gear. The previously used cunningham hooks dropped out repeatedly when reef lines weren't tensioned. Flailing hooks while raising or lowering the sail are never good. Scratch that off the List. First try: angled sockets.

Proper Course: Laser Sailing: The Rules
http://propercourse.blogspot.com/2012/04/laser-sailing-rules.html
Thursday, April 12, 2012. Laser Sailing: The Rules. Laser Sailing: The Rules - by The Keepers. We are the Keepers of the Vang. In so being, we also maintain the sacred text wherein lie the simple truths of Laser Sailing etiquette known as The Rules. It is in our trust to maintain and endorse this list. 1 Obey The Rules. This isn't the Pirate's Code, for Pete's sake. These aren't guidelines. These are The Rules. 2 Lead by example. 3 Guide the uninitiated. Gently tell them of the error of their ways? To pu...

Reaching Broadly: Kingston Day 6
http://reachingbroadly.blogspot.com/2015/07/kingston-day-6.html
A dinghy sailor old enough to retire but who continues trying to get his Laser (and occasional other boat) into a watery groove. Sunday, July 19, 2015. It was a good day for me - even though it rained a bit. Three races and no last places - Wahoo! First race an OK start but then, as usual, losing places on the upwind. I tell myself I am a bit light (around 78 kg) and that is why I suffer upwind. Maybe or perhaps a lack of skills? At any rate, in every race, I do much better downwind or on reaches. Anothe...

Sail Bug: smooth launch
http://sailbug.blogspot.com/2014/08/smooth-launch.html
Two landlocked newlyweds learning to sail. Monday, August 25, 2014. Our futures are so bright. Sunday dawned a beautiful and glorious day and we were not going to let anything like home improvements or social interaction get in our way of a good sail. So, like good pavement sailors, we rigged the boat in the driveway and loosened the goose to let the boom naturally roll into place, and then tightened it. Hey, let's just trailer it like this," Mike said as the sail rippled in the breeze. He grabbed the dr...

Reaching Broadly: June 2015
http://reachingbroadly.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
A dinghy sailor old enough to retire but who continues trying to get his Laser (and occasional other boat) into a watery groove. Wednesday, June 10, 2015. I have had very few real sailing lessons and no doubt learned much more slowly and with many more bad habits than I would otherwise. Yesterday, I had a lesson with Owen Bowerman, a young visitor from the UK who is on the Team GBR. Third, my roll was not timed well with the boat’s turn. This made all the difference. Sunday, June 7, 2015. Sailing in the ...

Lingering Lunacy : A Moment With "Time"
http://lingeringlunacy.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-moment-with-time.html
A record of, and ruminations on, the building and enjoyment of my boats. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. A Moment With "Time". In my opinion, Thomas Gillmer designed perhaps one of the top 10 all-time classic sailboats in his 23' Blue Moon. While noted for other beauties like his topsail clipper schooner, "Pride of Baltimore I and II", this little 1943 gaffed yawl is a real looker. One owner, John, has a blog. From a previous listing. Lingering Lunacy : December 2014
http://lingeringlunacy.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
A record of, and ruminations on, the building and enjoyment of my boats. Thursday, December 25, 2014. Here's to a year of many blessings . Wednesday, December 3, 2014. UNA Shines In Small Boats Monthly. Small Boats Monthly is an imprint of WoodenBoat magazine. I met its editor Chris Cunningham at MASCF this past Fall. When he said he'd like to highlight UNA in his digital publication, I was flattered. Is December's issue and my boat is at the bottom of the page. Very cool. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Sail Bug: Our first turtle
http://sailbug.blogspot.com/2014/07/our-first-turtle.html
Two landlocked newlyweds learning to sail. Saturday, July 5, 2014. This 4th of July was marked with many firsts: our first sail on our neighborhood lake, our first successful dock launch, our first outing with our brand new sail . and our first turtle. Yep We flipped the boat right on over. Since we didn't have the camera on us and were a little busy, you'll have to let the Internet illustrate. Waving for help or having a dance off? The boat was floating sideways for about two seconds, then rolled right ...

Sail Bug: Good-bye, Blue!
http://sailbug.blogspot.com/2014/06/good-bye-blue.html
Two landlocked newlyweds learning to sail. Monday, June 23, 2014. We put Old Blue up for sail on Saturday night, and by Sunday afternoon, she was sold. A lovely couple and their two excited kids came to see her and bought on the spot. Tonight they came back with the truck to take her to her new home. It felt so weird. AND THEN I REALIZED THE RUDDER, DAGGERBOARD, AND MAINSHEET WERE STILL IN THE YARD! Gaaaaaaah. Let's have a pretty parting pic:. Old Blue after we first sailed her. This Old Hull Update.
