http://eatingnearlyeverything.blogspot.com/2012/04/just-thing.html
Saturday, April 21, 2012. It seems my food choices are color-coded with my reading. I'm nearly done with the semester—no more memoirs to read, so I've thrown myself whole-heartedly into some fiction, some bite-sized chocolate chip cookies, and some beer. It's a great combination. April 21, 2012 at 3:02 PM. I love Daura. its quickly become the only GF beer I want to drink. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow me on Twitter! A list of GF-friendly restaurants. eating (nearly) everything: Farmer's Market Dinner
http://eatingnearlyeverything.blogspot.com/2012/06/farmers-market-dinner.html
Friday, June 1, 2012. We found a (non-edible) succulent, lettuce, spicy radishes, ugly tomatoes, parsley, kohlrabi (which also functions as a scalp massager) asparagus and garlic scapes. I was looking for ramps! At the co-op we bought arborio rice and some diced prosciutto. I followed the Joy of Cooking's risotto instructions incorrectly,. From here on I will adapt the recipe with all my errors; each error could also be interpreted as laziness, so follow my directions for a simpler risotto. We did none o...
eating (nearly) everything: Backwards 'Rumspringa'
http://eatingnearlyeverything.blogspot.com/2012/06/backwards-rumspringa.html
Monday, June 18, 2012. In the Amish community, youth are allowed to leave and live as the "English" do for one year. Rather than going out and sampling crystal meth, having unprotected sex or wearing a lot of zippers, Amy and I are learning to can. Can. Strawberry Rhubarb Test-Run Jam. Once I'm feeling more confident about the actual water-bath canning process, I'll share my tips. Refrigerator pickles are SUPER easy and so delicious. (I've already eaten two jars.) I'll post those in a few.
eating (nearly) everything: The Great Mysteries of Life

Monday, May 7, 2012. The Great Mysteries of Life. Here's the thing. I just realized I've never had. Gnocchi. So I can't tell if it was good or not. Did I undercook it? Was it the gluten-freeness of it all? Squishy little balls. Squishy, squishy little balls. I mean. How do you make gnocchi? How should it taste? How should it feel? My sauce was good, I know THAT much. Italian sausage, capers, spinach and red pepper flakes in plain tomato sauce.). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow me on Twitter!

May | 2010 | Ten for Two
https://tenfortwo.com/2010/05
Archive May, 2010. Scrambled eggs with goat cheese and chives. Brunch is a really inexpensive and pretty stress-free way to entertain. I had some people over for brunch this past weekend and when I am entertaining I like to keep the cooking as simple as possible. I made scrambled eggs, potato hash, and put out some fresh fruit with yogurt and granola. Oh! And there were some cranberry coffee bars, but we will discuss those bars at a later date…. Hungry in Halifax: cardamom pear loaf
http://hungryinhalifax.blogspot.com/2011/02/cardamom-pear-loaf.html
Thursday, February 3, 2011. Perhaps like me, you've survived the great snowpocalypse that attacked much of North America (yes North America, dear States-side readers. When you see weather systems disappearing beyond the borders of the US on TV, they come here to Canada). I can't bear the idea of leaving the house, the slushy streets, icy sidewalks, and the mountains of snow to be conquered on every street corner! All I want is cup upon cup of tea, and a little cake to go with it! Vegan Cardamom Pear Loaf.
Hungry in Halifax: November 2012
http://hungryinhalifax.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 25, 2012. Christmas Cake, day 1. I love real fruitcake for not being too sweet, and being actually fruity, not in a bright, summery way, but in a serious, winter way. It's a very companionable cake, for the quiet, contemplative time of year. It's also a party cake, though, because it really is full of booze! If you're going to make it, use something that you like to drink. The alcohol helps preserve the cake and gives it flavor. Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful...
Hungry in Halifax: Making Charlie's Seitan
http://hungryinhalifax.blogspot.com/2013/05/making-charlies-seitan.html
Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Readers, as you know, I am always on the look out. For a good seitan recipe. Well, I found a new one o n Charlie's Kitchen Blog. And it made a great batch of seitan! I have been using a mix of vital wheat gluten and chick pea flour in my recent batches, but I really liked the density of Charlie's all VWG seitan recipe. It had a pleasant texture- not too chewy! I had to do some substituting based on what I had in my kitchen, so I wrote up a version of the recipe I ended up making.
about | Ten for Two
https://tenfortwo.com/about
Hi there, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Jaime. I live in NYC, I’m on a budget, and I like to cook simple meals using fresh, seasonal ingredients. This is called Ten for Two because it’s meant to be just that: a meal for two people for ten dollars. Sometimes I go over budget, sometimes a little under… but, hey, it’s all a learning process, right? Either way, thanks for stopping by. 2 Responses to “about”. June 9, 2010 at 11:29 am. Remove from pan. Rinse radishes well in cold water, removing all dirt. Cut off tops and bottom roots. Quarter radishes, toss with olive oil and salt. Roast in oven at 425 for about 15 minutes. Let radishes cool. Once radishes have cooled, slice radish quarters into thin slices. 1 bunch radishes: $0.99.

Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Green Beans Paruppu usili. This recipe is especially for my friend Adrianne. This past summer, I had the great pleasure of swapping banana flower recipes with her and another friend. In South India it is common to eat banana flowers sauteed with paruppu usili, steamed lentil cakes, broken up into small pieces. She will have to give us the recipe for her banana flowers in coconut milk from the Philippines (and also for mango salad, please! Green Beans Paruppu usili. Make littl...
Hungry in Halifax: March 2013
http://hungryinhalifax.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 4, 2013. I've been enjoying The Hakka Cookbook. Since I received a copy in the fall from the book's editor, who I am very proud to say is my friend! The recipes are written clearly and with warmth, and everything I've made so far has been delicious! I've made Anusasananan's garlic noodles several times, adapting the recipe by replacing the shrimp with tofu, or in this version, with steamed seita. That I made myself. The chili is an exotic treat. 1/2 tsp. ground white pepper (or black).

eating (nearly) everything
Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Find me now at: Prairie Bitches. It's a shorter, sweeter, Midwest-themed, eating-for-one, photo-focused, gluten-free food blog. Thursday, July 19, 2012. Start with fresh ingredients. The only way to learn canning is to do it yourself. It is terrifying and complicated the first time you try it. There is boiling water and detailed instructions (I am bad at instructions) and rubber gloves and special tongs and, of course, the risk of death. Jam is not good for you. The nice thing abo...

Just another WordPress.com site. Guest blog about Squirrels. August 25, 2011. August 15, 2011. The rocks were coming up fast. I was getting a little worried. (Fear of explosion). D Hang on for the ride. Was I becoming delirious? The bow hit the first rock, pushing it up high in the air. Picture of my catch. So as the ...

One woman trying to have it all. or at least as much of it as possible. November 11, 2016. I suspect some may wonder why I haven’t posted anything on the election this week. Maybe not. I wanted to be sure I worded my thoughts just right. I do believe in thinking before writing. My thoughts are about more than a candidate loosing an election. My candidate of choice has lost many elections. I’m used to it. I was a bit too naive. While I understand the violence, I cannot see that it will fix anything. V...
