Wings Above The World: September 2013
http://wingsabovetheworld.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wings Above The World. We hear wingbeats above us. We feel a heartbeat within us. One and the same. Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Birds From The Last Few Days. One of my favorite birds from the Eastern Sierra (they are all over, but I grew to love them there), the Warbling Vireo. The Vireo takes off. A rare island migrant, a Green-tailed Towhee. This bird stayed for at least a week. A Western Flycatcher noms a beetle in the Coast Guard Tree. Same bird, extra curious. One of the few dozen Black Turnstones.

Warblers and rumors of warblers: June 2015
http://rumorsofwarblers.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Warblers and rumors of warblers. Monday, June 29, 2015. Prattsville NY, Summer Solstice. On the first weekend of Summer, our friend Gary drove us up to his family's summer house in Prattsville NY, Catskills. It's a lovely place that I've blogged about before. On the way up, we stopped for lunch at the original Bread Alone shop in Boiceville. Ten minutes looking at the scrubby woods at the edge of the parking lot yielded a Vesper Sparrow along with Carolina Wrens, Common Yellowthroats, and Catbirds. Back ...

Birding With Bobay: January 2015
http://birdingwithbobay.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 16, 2015. I don't really know what I was expecting the Quail-Dove chase to be like. I'm used to chasing rare ducks and shorebirds, where you basically just scope a field until you see the bird. This method usually doesn't take that long. It's pretty easy. This, however, is not. Golden Orb Trail, prime Quail-Dove habitat. Despite my mediocre and somewhat unsatisfying view of the bird, I left the park happy. Others had pored hours and hours into trying to see that bird. I was lucky.

Yesterday afternoon (2/27) I stumbled across a Cackling Goose. Cackling Goose (center) with Canada Geese. A much smaller bird overall, with a stubby beak, shorter neck, and lighter back coloration (hard to see in this photo). Posted in New York. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Eat The Blog: February 2015
http://eattheblog.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. Not my photo, but my bottle looks identical). Midwestern winters are noteworthy for their length, and general severity. Though we feign surprise each year as the mercury drops, it isn't out of the ordinary to experience several months of misery. After the festivities of December have passed, it is a terribly long slog until the first pink rhubarb shoots start to show, often beneath a pile of April snow. Through the miracle that is the Internet, here it is-or at least a very c...
