South Island Interlude | E-Bus Stop
https://ebusstop.wordpress.com/2015/06/09/south-island-interlude
Travels in our motorhome. We flew into Queenstown from Auckland where we spent quality family time, big thanks to Debra who braved torrential rain and evil traffic to collect us from the airport and Anne and Willy who got up at an unforgivable hour on Sunday to return us there. Still say Auckland Airport is the best in the world. I dread the time when she truly forgets our names, but hope there will always be flashes of her quirky sense of humour. End of the First Epic Trip. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
Nullarbor, bugs and rocks | E-Bus Stop
https://ebusstop.wordpress.com/2015/01/08/nullarbor-bugs-and-rocks
Travels in our motorhome. Nullarbor, bugs and rocks. A bobtail or shingleback lizard at the stop over at Tcharkuldu Hill, Minnipa, SA. It has made it’s home in a derelict stone cottage near where we camped. After seeing this we did not venture in. Roo on the side of the road. Good opportunity for an anatomy lesson. Road kill is huge in the Nullarbor. This fella blocked our way on a walk. The web was at least 3 metres wide and high. End of the First Epic Trip. And, I only looked. 08/01/2015 at 9:35 pm.
End of the First Epic Trip | E-Bus Stop
https://ebusstop.wordpress.com/2015/01/11/end-of-the-first-epic-trip
Travels in our motorhome. End of the First Epic Trip. How really to sum the month-long trip up in my mind? What comes first to mind that says it all in a nutshell? I think that taking a year or two to drive slowly around is going to be a peak life experience, filled with the pleasure and novelty of seeing places for the first time, with excitement, with boredom and irritation, but mostly because it is fun and we can. Yes we can. Cap exiting a dunny inspection! The weather changed during the last night in...
Murray Darling Basin | E-Bus Stop

Travels in our motorhome. Full moon at Penrose Park. I would blame the Sussmans for this more random introspective post, having just read their last post from Mozambique, but in truth been mulling this for some time. So don’t start to store any medical questions for him. Wishing James, always with an academic bent, much enjoyment. It really is fun to be poor, really it is…. Camels making like cows. Koonawarra’s footsteps. Mutawintji Gorge permanent rock pools. Panamee rock art about 30,000 years old.
River and Rocks | E-Bus Stop
https://ebusstop.wordpress.com/2015/07/24/river-and-rocks
Travels in our motorhome. This blog seems to require an inordinate amount of effort – if I only knew that my memory would serve be better I would not be going to the effort of writing it all down. I have considered a diary and just jotting notes into it but that seems to be insufficient, so, to continue…. We had been told Swan Hill was a dump but found it to have a wonderful riverside camp ground and heaps to walk and bike around. Cold overnights still had me thinking electric blanket for sure . ...I am ...

An assault on the senses | rugbymother

Often wrong, never uncertain. An assault on the senses. 7 April, 2015. 28 December, 2015. There is no other way to describe Tsukiji, the giant Tokyo fish markets. Although the market itself opens at 4am, they only let the gawpers like us in at 9… Apart from a tiny band of tourist keen enough to be there queuing when they open for the 120 observer passes to the tuna auction. We were not that keen. So Rob and Jenna, Peter and I, set out at a more civil hour for “just a look”. Wow! By 10 we were done, and r...

Often wrong, never uncertain. Castling, shrining and templing. 25 April, 2015. 28 December, 2015. There is surely no better place in the world than Japan to see amazing castles, temples and shrines; and to marvel at the propensity for men in power to predictably build to the “mine is bigger than yours” maxim. Next stop Kyoto, the ultimate place for templing! Howard did save the best for last – Kyomisidera – pronouncing he would be “very disappointed” if I didn’t battle yet m...Though an elder local visit...

Often wrong, never uncertain. Credit where credit is due – how not to breed the next generation of terrorists. 31 July, 2014. 1 September, 2014. So this week, I surprised even myself at the joy I felt on reading a tweet from @tameiti, self proclaimed “Activist, Artist, Terrorist and Cyclist. Living in the heart of the Tuhoe Nation.”. How much more important is it then, that we as a nation understand that the hurt felt by the Tuhoe people, at the 2007 raids, and at the no doubt mulitple perceived injustic...

Often wrong, never uncertain. Hiroshima’s monuments to peace. 19 April, 2015. 28 December, 2015. One hesitates to even dare comment on a visit to such an historic place, with so much said, and so much written by the more informed, the more experienced and those more closely affected by a literally world-changing event. But somehow it seems disrespectful to let this sobering visit pass without even a brief comment. Peter rang the peace bell. A series of small amazements – part 1 (dogs). You are commenting...

Often wrong, never uncertain. To wait, or not to wait? That is the question. 31 August, 2014. 28 December, 2015. Cyclists are funny creatures! But is Stelvio in the rain with no cars better or worse than Stelvio in the sunshine with cars? Peter says the latter – channelling past woes of his worst day riding ever, some 10 years ago when he nearly froze to death on the downward return in wet clothes in freezing temps. Peter did offer to take the pack…. Setting off for Stelvio. Lunch interspersed with ̶...

A great WordPress.com site. August 17, 2015. Large trucks little road. Anne’s still asleep or trying to sleep. I have been restless for a while. I think she’s written about Gorongosa so I wont. We left Gorongosa for Vilanculos and the journey was fortunately less ‘eventful’ than the previous one ie no more scuffles with men wanting bribes and relying on the backup of their army fatigue clad AK 47 bearing colleagues. We WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED. Brave words. We overnighted in Vilanculos. At Casa Rex...

A great WordPress.com site. Post 3 Lake Malawi. Willy’s contribution. The lake is every bit as beautiful as it was and the people are every bit as friendly. There are, to be sure, very many more of them and the evolution of their fishing practises have certainly outstripped the evolution of the fishes abilities to avoid being caught in indiscriminately fine nets hauled between diesel…. A great WordPress.com site. Monthly Archives: August 2014. Post 18 Bagatelle Kalahari Ranch. I was very concerned that this would be a hunting ranch so I triple checked myself, asked our Travel agent to check and then got my cousin Michael to check (he is a watchdog for canned hunting outfits). All was well. It has three cheetahs that were recued as kittens of three months when their…. August 7, 2014. August 4, 2014. Fill in of Gorongosa and Mjejane- Johannesburg. Willy said I had written about Gorongsa but I actually hadn’t so I’ll just skip back to that briefly.
