Training Wheels | stuffjasonsays

Reflections on mission, leadership and faith. November 13, 2013. One of the most frustrating parts of parenthood is the realization that you can’t make your children happy. You can supply them with their needs: love, shelter, food, clothes, safety. You can buy them toys. You can even take them to Disney World but you can’t make them happy. Happiness must be chosen. I was reminded of this in my most recent battle with my 8-year old daughter who refuses to learn to ride her bike without training wheels.

Reflections on mission, leadership and faith. Monthly Archives: February 2014. The Role of Guilt. February 7, 2014. I couldn’t stop throwing up. I was 12 years old, and was laying in the back of our family’s mini-van on our way to Colorado for a week of vacation. I couldn’t keep anything down, so my parents equipped me with a small trash can that they would stop and empty every hour or so. I was convinced I was dying. The doctors got it out just in time. Last Wednesday night, the group of men I meet with...

Reflections on mission, leadership and faith. Monthly Archives: June 2014. Staring Into the Hollow. June 4, 2014. I love this picture. I took this picture of my daughters while on a hike through the woods of the Leon River bottom. It is a picture that captures the wonder of childhood, as it emanates a sense of awe, fear, curiosity and excitement. Those feelings and moments are all too familiar in our childhood and unfortunately, all too absent in adulthood. May today be a day filled with a sense of awe a...

Reflections on mission, leadership and faith. Monthly Archives: January 2014. January 31, 2014. Friday is taco day. Every Friday morning, as an easy means of motivation for my 5-year-old daughter, the two of us leave the house about ten minutes early and swing by this little Mexican restaurant by our house on the way to the church. Every Friday, I give the same order:. One bacon, egg and cheese taco and one bean and cheese taco, please. I could tell she was skeptical. We both took a bite at the same time.

Reflections on mission, leadership and faith. Monthly Archives: December 2013. December 11, 2013. I can remember the feeling like it was yesterday. Sitting on the sidelines, helmet on but not fastened, mouthguard dangling from my face mask, hoping that the coach would forget that I was on the team. But I was on the team. Come game-night, though, I was perfectly content to sit on the bench. Over and over again in scripture, we find stories of people whom God called off the bench and into the game. Som...
