From Big Sur's killer cliff-clinging eateries to Salinas' unparalleled produce, this blog aims to sniff out all things Monterey County can stomach, via picture and prose, curiosity and appetite, hand and mouth. Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Sometimes you just know, you know? You walk in someone's house, and you can tell the friendship's gonna flow deeper. You step on the field and somehow discern it's your day. You ease into a new restaurant and sense it's a spot where you'll get along famously. Above right)...

Tuesday, November 23, 2010. A Tiny Place for Great Crepes. Chef conversation floated about the closet-sized kitchen in fluid French. (Yes, that's the kitchen.). It was Friday afternoon. Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Powerful Lessons From TLC Ranch's Recent Closure. When an ex-marine beats a horse in a 50-mile race, you know he's up to a challenge. So that tells you how hard it is to keep small organic poultry and livestock farm afloat. One-time horse-versus-human champ Jim Dunlop.

Thursday, January 6, 2011. A Look Back at 2010: Most Missed Departures. Plenty of restaurants famously fold up their tableclothes every year, let alone in years when disposable income is in the garbage disposal. Adjacent space when Karma Cafe. Makes a mean and authentic torta (more on that soon).

http://32above.blogspot.com/2010/11/dollar-scoop-night.html

Best of Monterey County. Oh hey there Baskin Robbins. I love getting ice cream on Tuesday with my roommates! A scoop of Gingerbread Man ice cream for a buck :) quite a festive flavor. And might I add that the Baskin Robbins attached to Subway smells SSsooOoOooo good. What if they made a mix between a meatball sandwich and sundae on accident? November 17, 2010 at 11:14 AM. I didnt know about dollar scoop night! Im crying inside right now. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Stay Connected - Local Links.

http://32above.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Best of Monterey County. On Saturday, July 17th, my mom, sister, and I ate at Fishwife. 789 Trinity Ave, Seaside). We drove there after the scary, slightly dangerous Toyota Camry ride through Fort Ord's mountain bike trails (NOT recommended). I chose this place because it's on my "Best Of" list. Fishwife won the title of "Best Restaurant in Seaside." I beg to differ. 1 Line caught Sea Bass ($14) grilled, with sauteed spinach and tomato on a bed of rice on a bed of pineapple cream sauce. 32 Above - Life in Monterey County: Pumpkin Pie to Pictionary

http://32above.blogspot.com/2010/11/pumpkin-pie-to-pictionary.html

Best of Monterey County. Pumpkin Pie to Pictionary. We had a holiday potluck at work yesterday and I decided to use it as a way to test out one of the pumpkin pie recipes I'm thinking of using for Thanksgiving. After looking online I decided to test Cook's Illustrated's recipe. 1 1/4 c. AP flour. 6 T cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch slices. 1/4 c cold vegetable shortening, cut into 2 pieces. 2 T cold vodka. 2 T cold water. 1 c heavy cream. 1 c whole milk (I used 2%). 3 large eggs and 2 large yolks.

Best of Monterey County. A Farm Stand Thanksgiving. Check out this map. You've got Monterey Bay on the left, what is probably Elkhorn Slough up top, and Highway 1 going up the center. That star-arrow thing in the middle is pointing right at one of the neatest/cheapest/diverse produce stands in the whole entire world: Farm Fresh Produce. Check out the Price indicator on Yelp. ONE DOLLAR SIGN. That's not a joke! This place is super duper di doooper cheap! They are actually open 24 hours a day! I bought my ...

Best of Monterey County. Saturday was the OMD - Official Move Day. My dad and Kyle helped pack up an Explorer, my Mazda, and a baby semi. It all fit! They were both so helpful, I definitely couldn't have moved as quickly if it weren't for them. THANK YOU! The "Big Truck" is so handy LOL. When we got to San Jose, all cars were unloaded and I got to work unpacking. Approximately 5 minutes later I decided I'd rather bake some cupcakes so I gave up. Dinner was amazing. It was fun to get involved with the...

32 Above - Life in Monterey County: Wild Plum Bakery and Cafe

http://32above.blogspot.com/2010/12/wild-plum-bakery-and-cafe.html

Best of Monterey County. Wild Plum Bakery and Cafe. On Saturday two of my friends from San Jose were in town. Sarah and Brian drove down the night before for their pal's housewarming party. We decided to meet up for lunch and it was my task to find a "cute spot" to blog about! I'm glad Sarah keeps me accountable. But where to go? Little known sandwich spot? Hit up the municipal wharf? A few weeks ago, my friend Maren. Cons: unprofessional, stressed owner, understaffed. Oh Phooey! They don't know anything.

http://32above.blogspot.com/2011/01/aunt-connies-new-years-wedding.html

Best of Monterey County. Aunt Connie's New Year's Wedding. My mom, sister, and I flew to St. Louis last week for my Aunt Connie's wedding in St. Louis. The whole ceremony was beautiful and it was great to be back with family. My last midwest trip was over 1.5 years ago. Mia and Sam were the adorable flower girls. So cuuuuute. This is one of my favorite pictures - great bouquet action going on. The family, most of it. no, some of it. We are a big family! It wasn't Cinderella castle-like. More medieval?

Reflections on Stripmall Eating. Thursday, July 12, 2007. 181 Columbia Street, Fall River, MA. Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá; Porco a Alentajana; Complimentary Bread and Butter. We had the pleasure of eating two great Portuguese meals, on our way to and from Cape Cod, respectively. In Fall River, we stopped for a white-tablecloth lunch at Sagres, a tidy spot just blocks from I-95 — not a stripmall or even a suburb but as an old babysitter used to say to me and my sisters, who's counting?
