Edinburgh Album: Ben Wyvis

http://www.edinburghalbum.blogspot.com/2012/07/ben-wyvis.html

Monday, 16 July 2012. Saturday 14 July 2012. Sunset with Ben Wyvis looming. Ben Wyvis from the south. This is the hill that looms over Dingwall just North of Inverness. Earlier in the day we set off to climb it. Here's the route up. From here it looks like a single peak. An Cabar - the way up. But when you reach this summit you see two more ahead:. Three summits: An Cabar, Carn a' Chaptein and Glas Leathad Mor. Cairn on An Cabar - Glas Leathad Mor is the summit. A walk in the park. The way back down.

Saturday, 25 February 2012. Messing about in the Canal? Came across this sign today:. The daffodils are out in Edinburgh today! Sunday, 12 February 2012. It's warmed up a lot lately, but there is still a patch of broken ice for the wildlife and rowers to neciate on the Inion Canal. Labels: ice Union Canal. Monday, 6 February 2012. Edinburgh Album: June 2012

http://www.edinburghalbum.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, 14 June 2012. Anyone who thinks the Olympic Torch has had a lukewarm reception in Scotland is mistaken. So many people turned out that I couldn't find a vantage point. So I've borrowed Norman's picture. (He was only about 50 yards away). My picture of the torch. The same street corner 1/2 an hour earlier. Tuesday, 5 June 2012. Dull - but not Boring. Today was a special day for several reasons:. The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Our First Munro see Munros. OFT Compliance in action.

Mal's Allotment: Something Stirring

http://malsallotment.blogspot.com/2009/03/something-stirring.html

A Gardening Calendar in an Edinburgh Allotment. Saturday, 28 March 2009. A few weeks ago I popped a bucket over one clumb of rhubarb. The second picture shows a comparison with a neighbouring uncovered crown. Back at home I have a mini greenhouse and will use this to bring on the brassicas in readiness for planting them out at the plot (like the leeks). But at the moment it's just too cold, and too windy to sow any seeds - Maybe tomorrow. In the meantime here's another close-up. 9 August 2009 at 20:45.

Rye Smile: October 2012

http://ryesmile.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

One man's battle with the mysteries of sourdough bread. Thursday, 4 October 2012. Here's the Wikipedia picture of a slice of pumpernickel:. And here's the result of seven hours baking today. Not bad you might say, but that's the crust. Inside things are a good deal soggier. Matters were not helped when the loaf split on turning out:. I've tried this recipe 3 times now, without success. Rye Smile: March 2012

http://ryesmile.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

One man's battle with the mysteries of sourdough bread. Monday, 26 March 2012. Recent success sent me back to Andrew Whitley's 100% Ryes. First of all Sourdough Rye with Seeds. 65279; Nice crust! 65279;. Seed and Nut Case. 65279; . but it was a bit solid and only half filled the pan. So rather than retreat I tried "Russian Rye" another 100% sourdough with a fresher livelier rye starter. The Ugly Truth - What Lies Within! 65279; Not fit to eat, but our local swans just love rye! Never rush a rye!

Rye Smile: June 2012

http://ryesmile.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

One man's battle with the mysteries of sourdough bread. Wednesday, 13 June 2012. Lepard v Whitley revisited - Rye Bakeoff. It's deja vu all over again! You should always wait 24 hours before cutting a rye loaf. But tonight I'm breaking all the rules. As part of the Mellow Bakers Challenge I baked Dan Lepard's Light Rye: This includes White flour and yeast . Whitley's Brodinsky 100% Rye. Side by side it's easy to be seduced by Lepard's big rise. Comparisons are odious - aren't they just! Cant understand w...

Rye Smile: Mellow Bakers - Dan Lepard's Mill Loaf

http://ryesmile.blogspot.com/2012/09/mellow-bakers-dan-lepards-mill-loaf.html

One man's battle with the mysteries of sourdough bread. Monday, 17 September 2012. Mellow Bakers - Dan Lepard's Mill Loaf. Adaptations. A teaspoon of malt extract instead of malted grains. I'm out just now. I added yeast to get the bake done on Sunday night rather than Monday when I'm off to work, sob. It was ready for my sandwiches as a result. And I did use the bread machine for kneading. Otherwise entirely in line with Dan. 18 September 2012 at 06:57. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Rye Smile: August 2012

http://ryesmile.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

One man's battle with the mysteries of sourdough bread. Saturday, 25 August 2012. This is Joe Ortiz's Jewish Rye (from The Village Baker). It's made with a milk sour and has surprisingly little rye in it (about 20%). The other key feature is caraway seeds. This flavouring splits our house in two . Here's a bread that has become a tradition in New England. As suggested by Floss Dworkin I may use oatmeal instead of cornmeal next time. Monday, 20 August 2012. Barm Bread ready for the oven. Rye Smile: March 2013

http://ryesmile.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

One man's battle with the mysteries of sourdough bread. Thursday, 28 March 2013. Adapting a tradition - Panettone. This year, as well as the hot cross buns, I had a go at panetonne, and I'm very pleased with the results:. The enriched dough is a fetching yellow courtesy of 6 egg yokes. I followed Dan Lepard's nut topping suggestion - but not the addition of chocolate to the mix. A bit of origami is required:. Crumb shot and taste test to follow. Here's this year's batch of hot cross buns.
