The Edinburgh Naturalists Field Club was instituted in 1869 for the practical study of natural history in all its branches. For a number of years the work of the club was carried on by a series of field meetings only held during May, June and July. Edinburgh and Lothians Wildlife Diary. Loch Skene from top of Grey Mare's Tail. Friday, 23 July 2010. Gosford Estate, Aberlady, East Lothain. Took advantage of the exceptionally warm, sunny weather today to visit Gosford Estate near the village of Aberlady in East Lothian. I walked though an area of mixed farmland and woodland, and though most birds seem to have gone silent by now, several Yellowhammers were still at it with their characteristic 'bread and no cheese' song. General sites I like.

An exercise in Biophilia. Friday, 14 August 2015. From a splendid morning yesterday I wish this frog photo had turned out better, but I only had my phone and the result isn't as nice as it could have been. As well as a Green Sandpiper and some nice Water Rails out in the open I also added a new lichen ( Hypogymnia physoides. And found some heather growing in the middle of the mossy barrens. Will it settle and expand? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). North Downs and beyond. A walk in the park. List - I...

An exercise in Biophilia. Tuesday, 30 June 2015. No doubt many more species of grass on the reserve but one step at a time . Monday, 29 June 2015. Spider day, 27th June. Miraculously a sunny day on Saturday allowed us to sweep like maniacs across the reserve in between days of rain and sodden vegetation. At least a couple of new species were added to the reserve list, with Tetragnatha montana. Being added to its more common cousin T.extensa. I had no adults when checked). Clubiona compta f - NEW. Cataloguing Cullaloe: April 2015
http://cataloguingcullaloe.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
An exercise in Biophilia. Thursday, 30 April 2015. A mixed lunchtime at Cullaloe with a good number of hovers on the flowering dandelions and a couple of Alderflies - one on the bridge and another fond on the car park ground, presumably two of many after an emergence. There was also another bee fly on the dandelions. One of the flies was the first Rhingia campestris. Of the year, another Cheilosia pagana. And a few Melanostoma. After a sunny 15 minutes the hail began to fall and it was game over. An Earl...

Jane and Graham's Walks Blog: Pakefield
http://janeandgrahamswalks.blogspot.com/2010/05/pakefield.html
Jane and Graham's Walks Blog. Saturday, May 22, 2010. Seems like we have chosen the hottest day of the year to go on holiday. We are off to Pakefield, just south of Lowestoft for two weeks staying in a static caravan. We stop near Swaffham to have our lunch before arriving in Pakefield mid-afternoon. The caravan is ideal and just a couple of minutes walk from the sea. In the evening we go for a walk along the coastal path towards Lowestoft. Jane and Graham's walks blog. View my complete profile.
