Der historische Ort liegt in 167 m Höhe auf dem Hügel Monte Calamita und hat 3108 Einwohner. Das Gemeindegebiet, das auch die Streusiedlungen Lacona, Madonna delle Grazie, Morcone und Pareti umfasst, weist eine Fläche von 38 Quadratkilometern auf. Nachbargemeinden sind Portoferraio. Und Campo nell’Elba. Ist heute nach ihm benannt. Das heutige Capoliveri lebt primär vom Tourismus.
