http://elephantseyegarden.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

26 March, 2014. A Swartland garden in March with a string of hearts Ceropegia woodii. The string of hearts is Ceropegia woodii. And I forget to look at them. The plant family is Apocynaceae (with frangipani and Carissa. Formerly Asclepiadaceae (with Hoodia. Found across South Africa, and to Tanzania and Madagascar. The bushmans pipe flowers are to catch insects, but only for pollination, not lunch. Posted by Diana Studer. South African / mediterranean plants. Links to this post. 19 March, 2014. If you us...

Elephant's Eye: April 2014

http://elephantseyegarden.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

23 April, 2014. A Swartland garden in April. When we left Cape Town, passed thru the Wheat Curtain, and began gardening in the Swartland. I battled to find advice, or appropriately indigenous plants. I tried and failed with the fynbos plants I knew and loved. Only the Erica baccans. Survived that lesson. Now growing with determination across the path, NOT in the bed. If I would start again now . Id turn to the gardens and nurseries at Biodiversity and Wine Initiative wine estates. For ideas and plants.

Elephant's Eye: August daisy chain walk

http://elephantseyegarden.blogspot.com/2010/08/august-daisy-chain-walk.html

11 August, 2010. August daisy chain walk. It is a month since you walked around my garden. Those white daisies which have just begun to open, are Dimorphotheca pluvialis. Rain daisies. My mother, born in London, grew up in Cornwall, waits eagerly each year for her favourite wildflower on the slopes of Signal Hill, behind the city of Cape Town. Today just one of my stars is not an Asteraceae. We used to call them Compositae, with ray florets for the OTT, and Fibonacci spirals in the heart of the sunflower).

Elephant's Eye: Malgas lilies and Moutonshoek

http://elephantseyegarden.blogspot.com/2010/06/cabin-fever-to-moutonshoek.html

10 April, 2014. Malgas lilies and Moutonshoek. When the mains burst, we are prepared for no running water and Regular Service will resume shortly. I used nearly a litre of water to brush my teeth and wash my face. Focused my mind on Third World women or children ( in Haiti for example. Who may spend 8 hours a day fetching water. Malgas lilies near Moutonshoek in April 2012. Malgas lilies with Moutonshoek in the distance. And would reduce and contaminate that water supply for the migratory birds. So spect...

Our home is called Prospect Cottage. Why the name Prospect Cottage? The word prospect has many meanings, one being “view from a place.” As we live in the valley we have spectacular views from every direction. To the north we have Corry Mountain and Kilronan Mountain is to the south. Prospect also means “something anticipated.” In gardening there is always anticipation. 9654; 54 Responses. This End of the Month View (and End of the Year) I am going to take you all on a frosty walk through the garden. Over the last six months you have seen many parts of the garden but this walk will try to bring the parts together. You may find the garden map. But first lets start at the front of the house. Three Furry Creatures, Two Souls, and a Coat. Posted by Gill Andrews. Asymp; 4 Comments. Can I ask you a question, my fellow bloggers? How did you manage to find your voice, your style and, in most cases, your topic to dedicate your blog to? When I started this blog I didn’t have much hope for it to last. Strangely enough, my blog number 3 survived. Whoever collects the empirical evidence for three times is a charm cliché: here is one more for you. However, I have a different problem now. Far Out Flora's Blog. Gardening in the Outerlands of San Francisco. Max the Border Collie. May 18, 2011. This is how it looked back then. Almost a year ago, I planted this metal pot rack. Into a succulent hanging thing. Lots of little cuttings, lots of sphagnum moss, lots of potential. Well, it’s all grown up now. Not exactly what I expected, but enough to salvage. A little fluffing and it’s looking sweet again, better than ever. I can’t wait for another 3-6 months to pass to see what happens next&...
