The thirteen-story-pagoda made of wood in the Tanzan-jinja shrine was originally built in 678, and is the oldest that kind in Japan. The beautiful roofs were refurbished just recently. Tanzan-jinja shrine is on the top of a mountain. In spring, it was covered with beautiful cherry trees, and in autumn with red and yellow foliage.

Candle Light Ilumnation - Nara Touka-e. The most romantic summer event in Nara had been held for 9 days from August 5 to 14. Five-story-pagoda of Kofukuji Temple and other places were lit-up on these days. Of course the pagoda looks great in daytime but it was magnificent when you see it in the night time in light. This is the first time I ever saw silver frost in my life. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this sight on the road up to the Mt. Oodaigahara in the southern part of Nara. The wind-bells of Ofusa-kannon temple. Ofusa-kannon temple is famous as a temple with beautiful roses. It is not a big temple, but in summer it has a nice view of two thousands of wind-bells hanging all round the temple garden. You can take a rest and have a cup of tea at the rest place setting back from the temple garden.
