Sunday, May 13, 2012. At the bus station in Lusaka. This is where Lindsey stayed in Lusaka for the month she was working there. The floor pattern on the verandah was really beautiful. If you look closely enough, you can see there is a design of women carrying things on their heads. Posted by Heather Leila. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). As Províncias de Moçambique. Monday, September 26, 2011. Miss Angola won Miss Universe 2011. Because she was found to be simples, while Miss France has shown herself to be complicada. An interesting concept in Lusophone Africa is the. Is saying that person is nice, or pleasant or best of all -not. Can mean all of these things, but it can also have a vague meaning that someone is just difficult to get along with. A situation that is. Can be complex to resolve or it can be simply a pain to deal with. At worst, to be. Everyone would kn...

Monday, September 10, 2012. This photo was making its way around Facebook a few months ago - or at least among users interested in Angola. It is an aerial image of the President´s mother´s compound. From the main road seen to the right, you can´t see much more than a steep, manicured hill. But the view from above lets you see to extent to which luxury and poverty co-exist in Luanda. I don´t know who took the photo or who originally posted it on the internet, or else I would credit them. Links to this post.

Maruvu: Zambia: Victoria Falls
http://heatherleilamoz.blogspot.com/2012/05/zambia-victoria-falls.html
Wednesday, May 9, 2012. In April I went to Zambia for a week to visit my friend Lindsey, who had been there for the month. We took a trip to Victoria Falls, where the Zambezi River falls into a gorge right on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Zebras at the park entrance. You can hike down to the bottom of the gorge. You can´t quite see where the water hits the bottom, but you can see where it pushes out of the gorge and makes a fierce whirlpool. Posted by Heather Leila. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Saturday, June 25, 2011. Luanda: The Most Expensive City in the World. Before arriving in Luanda, we were warned that it is the most expensive city in the World. That´s right, the capital of the country with the worst infant mortality rate is the most expensive place in the world to live. I have posted two photo-essays for you to compare. One is the supermarket where we shop, Martal. And the other is a supermarket built for French oil workers, the Palanca. Yes, it is expensive. It is expensive even f...

Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Guest Blogger: Tyree aka Real Househusband of Luanda. Is a sauce made with these tiny little peppers. It is HOT. I've never had anything like it. I liked it so much that I wanted to make some for myself. I know from experience not to chop up hot peppers with bare hands. I put these in the blender after twisting the stems off. Still, they burned a hole in my finger. Here's the finished product. Maybe we'll get fancier next time and put in some garlic, or lemon, or something. In sq...

Saturday, March 17, 2012. Burkina Faso: Nazinga Park. Before I went to the conference, we took a two day tour outside the capital. We spent one night at the Nazinga Park, near the southern border with Ghana. It is an animal reserve famous for its elephants. Here are some pictures of the animals we got to see:. We saw too many elephants to count. A variety of antelope. A herd of water buffalo crossed the road in front of us. The cabin where we spent the night. Posted by Heather Leila. Links to this post.
