The Mental Side of Lifting. Seems to be intended as a companion or follow up piece to Kono’s other book, Weightlifting, Olympic Style. Which I have not read). My understanding is that Weightlifting, Olympic Style. Covers the mechanics of Olympic Weightlifting in great detail. Championship Weightlifting. The competitive ...

I read a lot. I review what I read. It's pretty simple, really. Monday, February 28, 2011. Tolkien Estate Goes Crazy Nuts. Apparently, the Tolkien estate has decided that they want to destroy a novel that uses JRR Tolkien as a character. Not that rips him off, but actually includes him as a character. I have to imagine that they have very little legal ground to stand on, but come on guys. Seriously? I don't think JRR would mind being part of a novel. Hell, he might be flattered. Living the Martial Way.

Jake Reviews Books: November 2010

I read a lot. I review what I read. It's pretty simple, really. Sunday, November 21, 2010. Ghosts in the Snow. Ghosts in the Snow. Like many books I’ve read recently, I acquired this one on a whim; it showed up at Waldenbooks, and there was some confusion over whether it should be shelved in the fantasy or the mystery section. Eventually, it ended up in fantasy. Given my enjoyment of fantasy, and my recent rediscovery that I love mystery, I thought I’d check it out. At its heart, Ghosts in the Snow.

Jake Reviews Books: Borders Is Going Under
http://jakereviewsbooks.blogspot.com/2011/07/borders-is-going-under.html
I read a lot. I review what I read. It's pretty simple, really. Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Borders Is Going Under. I first heard about this at Locus. But it is probably all over the news at this point. Part of me feels kinda sad; I used to work for Waldenbooks, a Borders subsidiary back in the day, and liked a lot of the people I worked with, even if I didn't love the retail life. OTOH, the few people I know who stuck with company long-term got shafted before the end. So.I dunno. More of Jake's books ».

Women's Voices For Change. Ask Dr. Pat. Marriage and Life Partners. Child-free or Just Free? November 14, 2010. A lot of people wonder how a fantastic life could be possible, though, given that I haven’t done what every woman is not only supposed to do, but is apparently driven to do: marry and give birth. What’s more, I’ve done this by choice. I’m not anti-husband nor anti-child, but I don’t think they’re for everyone (really, how could anything be for everyone? And I never felt they were for me. It’s a...
