Why the Ballet Folklórico de México captures Mexico perfectly. August 5, 2015. In a flash, the stage is bursting with almost forty Juans and Marías whirling about at a hundred miles an hour, hankies in hand, dressed in dazzling costumes of orange and yellow like a bowl of zesty citrus fruit come suddenly to life. The first five minutes leave you simultaneously exhausted and invigorated, and that in itself lets you know it’s going to be really really Mexican. With an abundance of sombreros and criminally ...

A Long Time Home. July 5, 2015. 8220;But let’s just suppose. What if the whole deal – orientation, knowing where you are, and so on – what if it’s all a scam? What if all of it- home, kinship, the whole enchilada – is just the biggest, most truly global, and centuries-oldest piece of brainwashing? Suppose that it’s only when you dare to let go that your real life begins? It’s from Salman Rushdie’s. The Ground Beneath Her Feet. To peace of mind, self-knowledge and realisation. What makes us happy? 2 thoug...

Discovers that the buildings in San Miguel used to be white-washed, By governmental decree or committee the coloring of the town was changed from white to the palette of blood red, oranges, earthy ochres we see today. This was done to attract tourism. So he wonders are we seeing the true city or a town made up to look like something we want to see? Posted by Michael Landfair. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thursday, April 12, 2012. Is The U.S. Burning? Here's another reason Mexico is calling. In this piece from the latest Gartman newsletter, Dennis cites historians, Will and Ariel Durant, on the decline of the Roman Empire. The US. is following the same path and the outcome will be the same as Rome's. I think a prudent man would take his family out of harm's way. Posted by Michael Landfair. Mexico Calling: Travel To Los Osuna And El Caliete
http://mexicocalling.blogspot.com/2011/03/travel-to-los-osuna-and-el-caliete.html
Sunday, March 27, 2011. Travel To Los Osuna And El Caliete. We've been back from Mexico now a week and I will not forget our trip to the Los Osuna tequila Factory and El Queliete about 30 miles northwest of Emerald Bay. We hired Fernando who works for Avis. The van for six of us and the driver was 1,000 pesos plus gas. The tree pictured here at the factory is over 220 years old! First the root is chopped in pieces and steamed to soften the root. We all jumped back in the van, foregoing the zip lines down...
