American Girl in London: One week!!
http://ellieintheuk.blogspot.com/2014/06/one-week.html
American Girl in London. The trials and tribulations of an American at vet school in London. Holy mother of kittens, I've only got a week before I move back to the US. It's hard to believe. And books, what about those? Thankfully I've managed to sell most of my furniture. I don't feel too bad about not selling the rest. I'm taking a bit of a hit in the wallet, but it's not enough to make a huge fuss over. I'm just glad I sold the big ticket items (desk, TV, dresser). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

American Girl in London. The trials and tribulations of an American at vet school in London. I got my Viking horse tattoo. I love it, it's itchy, and I can't wait for it to be completely healed. And I want more. Anyway, Krakow was amazing. J and I had a great time. I forgot my phone, so I couldn't take any pictures while I was there. Sad, but it left my hands and mind free from obsessing about taking photos. Although I did have J take a few for me. Links to this post. Final Exams: 20% complete. Animals a...

American Girl in London. The trials and tribulations of an American at vet school in London. The final finals are officially over! Tomorrow I fly back for the pentultimate time to move my stuff from the UK to RI, then from RI to NY. And then start at my internship on Monday. Not much time to breathe. I do, however, have a pedicure at 1pm on Saturday, so there's a bit of pampering that will happen. 4 years coming to a close. Doesn't it just feel surreal? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). American Girl in London. The trials and tribulations of an American at vet school in London. 2015 Update: one year later. Turns out, I got the internship. Which is where I'm posting from; I ended up at University of Missouri as a surgery and medicine intern in the equine hospital. It's hot, the move was a bitch, but I'm so much less stressed out than I have been in years. Also, turns out I like being called Dr. Wahlberg. PS: congratulations RVC class of 2015! American Girl in London. The trials and tribulations of an American at vet school in London. Happy Christmas/Boxing Day/New Year! Home a week and a half and I've already been to New York and back, had lots o' food, spent time with family, and I had a great time doing it. This weekend I'll be visiting a bunch of old college friends in New Hampshire, something that is long overdue. Can't wait! But for now, I'll go back to my marathon of Supernatural (I'm on season 6, finally! Links to this post. One of tho...

What I Learned This Week. FRANK Communication training →. May 31, 2012 · 2:05 am. Treat the patient, not the numbers. Photo Credit: Lewis Cole. I remember in vet school, one of the clinical instructors said, “Treat the patient, not the numbers.” One of our patients was a miniature schnauzer with pure red cell aplasia–her bone marrow wasn’t making red blood cells. Her hematocrit hovered around 8%! Her final hematocrit was 5%.). For me, it’s probably once a month or so? Filed under General medicine. Then t...

Videos related to pain management. Treat the patient, not the numbers →. May 26, 2012 · 3:27 am. What I Learned This Week. Here’s a sampling of what I learned this week:. Chameleons can’t convert beta-carotene to vitamin A. There’s some kind of freeze-dried diet of cactus fruit for tortoises–cool! Necropsy on a 5-year old guinea pig revealed a large tumor inside her uterus–never seen something quite like that before. Over the past several weeks, I’ve had a crash-course in. Reflecting on the past year and choosing my three words for next year. January 1, 2014 · 5:58 am. Still kicking–sort of. Last year at this time, I chose three words to guide me in 2013: Listen. Organize. Energize. Here’s the truth: I think I failed on all three fronts. I couldn’t even remember what my three words were until I looked at them just moments ago. Part of me thinks perhaps I should not choose three words for next year, but what if that’s the beginning of the end? Or am I becoming complacent?

Still kicking–sort of →. January 1, 2013 · 3:24 am. Reflecting on the past year and choosing my three words for next year. Each year, instead of a New Year’s Resolution, I choose three words to help guide my decisions and how I live my life. Last year at this time, I was holding a brand new baby in my arms, and the words I chose to guide the oncoming year reflected my deep sense of commitment to her and my family: Nurture the future. I announced my plans to step down as president of a non-profit organiza...

Friday the 13th →. July 1, 2012 · 2:53 am. The best laid plans…. Excited to practice my new communication skills (see my recent post about the FRANK Communication Workshop. I attended), I picked up the phone to dial my 4:30 consultation about some rabbits. The client lived far away and had questions regarding her “herd” of about 100 rabbits (started as a 4-H project). The staff had warned me this would be a challenging conversation. I could have set the phone down, walked away for 5-10 minutes, come back...

Treat the patient, not the numbers. The best laid plans… →. June 28, 2012 · 4:10 am. A dream of mine came true today: I attended the first day of the Pfizer FRANK Communication workshop! It’s a 1.5 day workshop, and today was Day 1. Somehow, I missed the advance reading assignment, so I was worried I would feel behind. Fortunately, the Frank presentation Dr. Holzhauer had brought to our hospital had prepared me well, and I’m interested enough in this stuff that I had already read one book (. There were s...

The best laid plans…. Reflecting on the past year and choosing my three words for next year →. July 24, 2012 · 2:40 am. Some days, it feels like nothing goes as planned. Friday the 13th was one of those days. My schedule included two prophys, a dog and a cat. I also agreed to radiograph two raptors for Operation Wildlife. I thought I might actually have some time to catch up on some projects. Just when I thought I should go to lunch, we had an urgent care exam walk in: a 10 lb Pomeranian that had been pi...

Ellie in South Africa. Sunday, September 8, 2013. This blog has moved to tippingdominoes.wordpress.com. Time to move onto a more extensible platform. I fought it for ages. In some ways, I don't like change. But life is about managing change. So you can now find my musings here, at http:/ tippingdominoes.wordpress.com/. Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Photos of orange fields and fairy tales. Never happened. Too busy. Same thing the next year. And the next. The break wasn’t long enough. The patches were orange...

American Girl in London
American Girl in London. The trials and tribulations of an American at vet school in London. 2017: a year in perspective. I wonder, sometimes, if I made a poor decision going into veterinary medicine. I'm 3 years out, have gone through some truly awful and harrowing experiences (two internships, shitty ass job), and feel like it never. Fucking. Ends. Yes, I said fuck. But yet, burnout has still reared it's ugly head. This is veterinary medicine as I see it. Can I leave? Links to this post. I posted aroun...

Let Your Light Shine. A log of thoughts and adventures along my journey to shine the light of Christ in Japan. Friday, July 24, 2015. There are so many beautiful things from my brief weeks in Japan I'd love to share with you. Familiar neighborhoods, smiling faces of friends old and new (that I didn't take enough pictures of), tasty food, churches growing/multiplying, dreaming about the future with artists and pastors. 2-year-old-Japanese that loosely translates "look what's here, look what I found!
