我国尤其是西部地区有丰富的淀粉和无机矿产资源，通过高新技术创新与集成，开发出具有广泛市场前景的环境友好可降解材料，可达到带动资源高值化、增加农民收入和环境修复的双重目的，形成 产品研发 中试放大 产品生产 和 材料研制-应用示范-环境治理 联合和协调发展模式。 近年来，环境材料与生态化学研究发展中心完成了包括863、科技部农业转化资金、中国科学院 西部行动 、交通部 西部建设 、国家自然科学基金、甘肃省科技支撑和江苏省科技支撑等项目在内的多项国家级和省部级项目。 是 兰州市生态材料研究与开发中心 的依托单位 2000年与企业建立 甲壳素研究与开发联合实验室 ，2008年与企业建立 凹凸棒黏土研究与开发联合实验室 2010年在江苏建立 中国科学院兰州化学物理研究所盱眙凹凸棒黏土应用技术研究开发中心。 主办了 2010甘肃-江苏凹凸棒黏土应用学术研讨会 ，2007年协办了 甘肃凹凸棒黏土矿产资源开发与应用论坛 ，2011年协办了 中美凹土深度开发战略研讨会。 地址 Add 中国 兰州天水中路18号 邮编 P.C. 730000.
