Adventures of a young geologist. Thursday, July 10, 2014. June 2, 2014. After our short stay in Matsumoto, we were on our way to Kanazawa, close to the Sea of Japan and well know for sushi and sashimi. The train along the eastern edge of the Northern Japanese Alps was a beautiful ride. At one point, we were on a small one car train going through the countryside and into tunnels of foliage. Sushi with a view. I could get used to this quality of fish! Location: Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. I am st...

Adventures of a young geologist. Saturday, November 12, 2011. Not even or regular in pattern or movement; unpredictable. A rock or boulder that differs from the surrounding rock and is believed to have been brought from a distance by glacial action. So, with that, I will (presumably) have more time to update, once grad applications are in. SO, there's going to be some changes to this blog in the next few months. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Adventures of a young geologist. Thursday, September 1, 2011. All I want is mountains! So, following along with some of the advice I recieved from fellow bloggers, I am going to write about what I love: MOUNTAINS! Or for an island arc example, the Mariana Islands. In the S. Pacific. So, to simplify, the rocks in the Sierra Buttes represent some very chaotic environments (and one quiet one). Are you excited yet? Andesite columns formed from rapid cooling. Photo taken in 2009. But I think I can say these a...

Em Ventures: Kamikochi and the Japan Alps

http://www.emilyerratic.blogspot.com/2014/06/kamikochi.html

Adventures of a young geologist. Sunday, June 29, 2014. Kamikochi and the Japan Alps. Road up to the Japan Alps. View close to the bridge. Hiking through the swamp. Swampy area with many Iwana fish. Hiking along a lateral moraine up towards Mt. Hotaka. It was a fun interaction and we all laughed heartily. We had a chance to ask him about a symbol we were seeing everywhere which looked like a duck/man with a bad haircut. He explained that it is the Kappa monster. A stream where Iwana run. Asakusa and Uneo...

http://www.emilyerratic.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Adventures of a young geologist. Saturday, August 27, 2011. Okay I have a confession. This blog has not started out the way I imagined. Here's a little story. I am the only geologist in my office, so when I found out about the geoblogsphere, I was ecstatic! This is how I can keep up my conversation with other geologists not only locally, but around the world! Awesome. I got the name, URL, twitter, ect within 30 minutes, I was a member of the geoblogsphere! So, here's my first crack at some guidelines.

THE BRONTË LINK | by Emily Roß

15 A Response to the Telegraph and NPG’s ‘Mystery of Shadowy Brontë Brother’. December 31, 2015. How fitting that my final post of 2015 shall be my fifteenth. I had hoped to get something out for Emily Brontë’s deathday earlier this month ( Nick Holland. Did a lovely post on his own blog here). I will try and keep this short. Earlier this month the Telegraph posted an interesting article. The NPG is set to ‘reveal mysteries’ of ‘shadowy’ Branwell. Christopher Heywood put forward an argument in 2009 (.

The Inside Flap

Thursday, September 15, 2011. Book Review: The Well Behaved Child. The Well-Behaved Child: Discipline that Really Works! By John Rosemond is a book of old-school parenting techniques re-explained for the modern parent. It spells out practical advice for a broad range of disciplinary issues and promises tangible results. Some of the ideas are simple; some are far-fetched. But the bottom line of establishing an alpha-parent approach to parenting is invaluable. I think that this book is a great addition to ...
