The Chronicles of Nan-ia: The Battlefield of Love

http://emilysinasia.blogspot.com/2011/02/battlefield-of-love.html

The Chronicles of Nan-ia. Wednesday, February 16, 2011. The Battlefield of Love. Monday was a celebration of two things Bandon Sriserm loves: Valentine's Day and the annual English Exhibition! I wasn't sure if Valentine's Day would be a celebrated holiday in Thailand, but upon further pondering, I realized it's actually the perfect Thai holiday: expressing your feelings inadvertently, the color pink, larger-than-life stuffed animals, and a solid excuse for glitter/sequins/ribbons/balloons/bows in excess.

The Chronicles of Nan-ia: The Bear Grylls Bicycle Club

http://emilysinasia.blogspot.com/2011/02/bear-gyrlls-bicycle-club.html

The Chronicles of Nan-ia. Friday, February 25, 2011. The Bear Grylls Bicycle Club. Let me begin by saying: My face is on a billboard. As if you couldn't pick us out of a crowd before. The scariest thing that happend that night, by far, was the QUOTE-UNQUOTE "food" I actually ate. Ray Bans matched my bike! Thursday night marked the beginning of a long weekend. We found out early last week that we didn't have classes on that Friday. If I had known this information before three days prior to the lon...Doi P...

The Chronicles of Nan-ia. Thursday, December 23, 2010. My Gift to YOU. When I was in high school I volunteered every winter to be an elf in the Christmas parade. I would sit in Santa's sleigh in green tights and throw candy canes at strollers. This was the perfect way to kick off the holiday season- even when the new Santa Claus showed me his prosthetic leg. I did my best to spread Christmas cheer throughout Bedford and now I'm hoping to send some halfway across the world. CLICK HERE: MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The Chronicles of Nan-ia: June 2010

http://emilysinasia.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

The Chronicles of Nan-ia. Wednesday, June 30, 2010. When I began writing these blog posts, I grazed over how the classes at Bandon Sriserm are set up. I now realized that I refer to certain grades (i.e. 3.2 or 1.1) frequently, but haven't fully explained the logistics. Thus, the first number of the series represents what grade level and the second number represents what section. I teach the following first and third grade classes:. I hope this clarifies my teaching schedule! Tuesday, June 29, 2010. I imp...

The Chronicles of Nan-ia: November 2010

http://emilysinasia.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

The Chronicles of Nan-ia. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. After coming back to Nan from a whirlwind of an October, Caitlin, Nicole, and I wasted no time taking northern Thailand by storm. One of the first weekends back, we got together with a bunch of our foreign friends (including a new Belgian addition to our bunch- Benjamin! Words can't express. no really. The rest is history. I immediately slapped on a clown smile and began shouting, "I AM ENJOY! He eventually moved away from us. I would have been do...

CP in Thailand: July 2011

The Adventures of an Ajaan in Nan. Thursday, July 14, 2011. In With The In Crowd: Guay Tiao Sportsmen and Lanna Noblemen. This past week, in between leading young minds through the intricacies of irregular past tense verbage and the correct pronunciation of "I feel furious! Fwoo - lee - us! Mostly for my own amusement), my hours were spent hiking trails in the mountains of Nan, eating at the abode of ancient Nan nobility, and playing late night riverside soccer. Last Friday, the seven of us took motorbik...

The Adventures of an Ajaan in Nan. Thursday, March 31, 2011. This comes as my first-ever blog post written from my kitchen counter at home in San Diego. Now I just have to relearn my old phone and right-side-of-the-road traffic patterns, and what it feels like to not sweat at all hours of the day. Tune in again soon! Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Just when the cheese cravings subsided again, the sound of farang-farang! Way to really throw off my Southeast Asian groove, SG. Am I still in Asia? Is this still 2011? The Adventures of an Ajaan in Nan. Sunday, September 25, 2011. September has been a hard month to come to terms with. It means finishing (another) semester of molding young Bandon Sriserm minds in the shape of ABCs and present perfect tense. It will be saying goodbye to a few fellow foreign teachers in town, who are off to teach in other exciting places next term. And most regrettably, last week, it was the loss of my grandpa, James C.N. The Adventures of an Ajaan in Nan. Friday, January 28, 2011. A bit of news to start:. I have decided that one year of squat toilets, pit stains, and a highly limited selection of male companions who aren't named "Gookgai" or "Golf" just isn't going to suffice. so I've officially renewed my contract with Princeton-in-Asia for a second year of teaching in Nan! The Adventures of an Ajaan in Nan. Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Some story-worthy moments from my and Nicole's 5-day trip to Vientiane (which I still don't think I'm pronouncing right) this past weekend:. 2 Sunsets on the Mekong. 4 Close Call at the Sauna. I narrowly escaped some seriously indecent exposure. But hey, for a spa day that cost less than my breakfast, it was pretty awesome. Tuesday, July 20, 2010. The Adventures of an Ajaan in Nan. Monday, August 30, 2010. X Marks the Spot. I am ashamed to admit it took three months to get the ajaans out to a night club in Nan, but we finally did it. Determined to make it past my usual bedtime of 11 pm, I armed myself with a 30 minute pre-dinner napski and a can of 7-11 espresso. It was to be an epic evening in Nan. Au told us - but gave us translated compliments all night long nonetheless. At the club, we were met by Lak, another 30-something Thai woman we'd met ...

How I Got Born | Reckonings of an Adoptee

How I Got Born. Reckonings of an Adoptee. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. March 29, 2015. Foster care was the UP part of being put up for adoption. The up-for-grabs, up-in-the-air, upsy-daisy part. The part in the story that was neither here nor there. The long Hail Mary that took me from lost to found, relinquished to claimed. They were probably waiting by the phone, their hearts on stand by, arms at the ready, for their baby to arrive. Each day it closed a little more. Bye bye, baby.

July 24, 2014. I can ferment sauerkraut with my eyes closed, but I have had a hard time with fermented pickles. In the past (didn’t turn out well) … I just keep trying.
