Rockin’s Blog Site. Bikepacking test – melting snow. December 5, 2010 at 10:40 am. My break from paper writing this morning was melting snow with my cobalt alcohol stove. Temperature was 24 degrees. Decided to try one ounce of fuel. One ounce ended up getting a bit over half a pot full of water almost to a boil before the fuel ran out. Next time I will try 1.5 ounces. Monday, June 15, 2009. So while hiking down Peak 1 at 8:30pm on Friday, my friend calls and we decided to get up early and climb up on Grays Peak to do some skiing. We must have had a faulty memory from last weekend, because we intended on trying to do a couple laps down the face of Grays.
