English 211 Blog

Wednesday, November 22, 2006. Haha back again (notice the same night. my car broke down and I can't leave for Thanksgiving. Fate decided against it. ). As if the archetypes we see and even act out today originate there? Personally. I think the bible is just an excellent portrayal and example of those truly timeless personalities and voices that we carry. (*The word I've heard to describe them is "surpapersonal" . but if I do that I'll just sound like I'm going over my head, eh? Posted by MB at 9:58 PM.

Sunday, November 05, 2006. I really have no idea. I suppose that could be seen as another "eastern" religious slant on things but it would be interesting if the idea of god is really just a subconcious construction that helps us understand and react to the world. "God" might mean simply the intricate, unpredictable, and often completely unfair nature of being alive. Do things really come full circle or is the point just that you suffer, and you find a way to still be a good christian no matter what?

English 211 Blog: October 2006

http://www.english211blog.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 11, 2006. I think the most interesting topic we've been dealing with is metaphor in the Bible. Of course, that's an insanely broad (and blatently obvious) statement but it's something that I constantly run into, yet never really think too much about. I suppose being in the English department can create somewhat of a passive feeling towards the deeper levels of a text. This actually stems from the 'lacunae' which we've been mentioning in class. What color are 's eyes? Well I managed to ...

Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Before I begin - I am going to tone myself down a little bit so I don't step on anyone's toes, but I am a truly satirical person and I love to take stabs at anything with a monopoly. Hence, religion is one of my favorite targets (in a loving way) but all I mean to say is to PLEASE take everything I say about the Bible with a Pillar of salt. Alright, I am slightly behind but not irreparably, I suppose. But then again, maybe the Ark left and I wasn't on it.

It is difficult to locate in Western literature and history a more charismatic figure than David."- Harold Bloom, The Book of J (pg 41). Interestingly, throughout the book of Genesis, the theme of the second-born being preferred to the first-born crops up again and again. Cain kills his younger brother; why?

E-Journal for Biblical Foundations of Literature/English 211 at MSU with Dr. Sexson. Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Tuesday: September 26, 2006. To summaries quickly a part of what is happening in this particular story. Now if we take a quick look at the prophet Hosea. The original point I was trying to get at was that if Blake saw Albion married to Jerusalem then I see a parallel between Hosea being married to Israel. For both are marriages representative of place, and both are reflective of. Is a perfect...

It goes greatly in depth and I suggest reading the link I have provided on the topic. There are 2 parts to the Talmud: The Mishnah. Which in Hebrew means repetition, and Gemara. Which means to complete or to study (according to wikipedia). These terms linked into today's discussion of "The Slave" by Isaac Bashevis Singer. 3 a : ONLY.

E-Journal for Biblical Foundations of Literature/English 211 at MSU with Dr. Sexson. Thursday, August 31, 2006. Thursday: August 31, 2006. Hello I think I'll start this with a quick disclaimer: This first entry will be short and sweet because I just typed out a whole long (rather witty) little number of a first entry and some how successfully made it disappear. So that's that. I'm really excited about the reading for this class. Some might think "The. And for now I'm off to more reading.

Sunday, November 19, 2006. So, there might be some gossip around my kingdom of Isreal that an evil spirit from God has somehow possesed me. People think I'm acting irrational trying to kill David, the one who played some nice music to make me feel better to sooth the "evil" spirit that has tormented me. Well, maybe my people forget that our God Yahweh annointed me the King of Isreal. ME! And an adulterous violent war monger who has turned my family against me! Posted by Dane McLain at 4:33 PM. Tuesday, July 1, 2008. I told the Gilgamesh Epic, although I forgot part of it until halfway through the story and had to correct myself but the audience did not mind. I think I made a comedy out of the Gilgamesh Epic because everyone kept laughing, even though there were no punch lines, maybe I was just telling it so bad that it made it funny. Biblical/Classical Literature - English 212

Biblical/Classical Literature - English 212. Sunday, December 11, 2005. Final Paper: Displaced Myth. When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe. As a sophomore in college I have come to the conclusion that by the time I graduate with a degree in English Literature I’ll be the best English Literature Trivial Pursuit player in the world (if there is such a thing, which I doubt) and that’s about it. Why do I study it then? What I learned in English 212.
