Gardening, gardens, and plants in London, Suffolk, and abroad. August 9, 2015. On a hot day, less windy than it has been, I visited RHS Hyde Hall. Dr and Mrs Robinson bought Hyde Hall Farm in 1955 and a determined Mrs Robinson started gardening – what an extraordinary achievement – I think they would be pleased with the results today, and the pleasure they are giving to so many people. I have visited before, and at each visit. There are different, wonderful, sights. Crocosmia ‘Spitfire’. Click to share o...

Gardening, gardens, and plants in London, Suffolk, and abroad. Planting for an entrance. July 25, 2015. The entrance gate makes the first statement about the property and gives a hint of what lies beyond. What should it say about you? Has a vicious root system, is easily propagated, and can probably be picked up cheaply at church fetes or markets, or perhaps a neighbour is thinning out their stock. It is everygreen and hugs the ground, but does need ‘tidying’. Euphorbia Amygdaloides. Clouds of Alchmilla ...

Lipstick & Curlers: a eulogy | quieter notions
https://shelftalker.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/grandma-ruth-one-year-ago-today
Lipstick and Curlers: a eulogy. August 10, 2015. August 10, 2016. My family tribe lost our maternal matriarch on August 10th, 2014. In her final 5 seconds of life, she opened her eyes wide and her mouth formed an O-shape. She wasn’t looking at any of us and didn’t even seem to know we were there anymore. Later, John described her expression being like a little kid watching fireworks. Whatever she saw, wherever she was going, she was in awe and wonder when she finally saw it. A year later to the day.
