EO Online: Here to Help
http://eoonline.blogspot.com/2009/12/here-to-help.html
This place will not console us. Thursday, December 17, 2009. We are willing to help, Lord, but what if anything is needed? My text today comes from Norman MacLean’s novella,. A River Runs Through It. 8220;You are too young to help anybody and I am too old,” he said. “By help I don’t mean a courtesy like serving choke-cherry jelly or giving money. 8220;Help,” he said, “is giving part of yourself to somebody who comes to accept it willingly and needs it badly.”. 8220;Do you think you help him? By the Water...

This place will not console us. Thursday, June 23, 2011. Some silly title like, Water: It's Powerful Stuff. Water has been on my mind lately. Water has been on my mind, because a Christian community’s work in the field of mission has its origin in the waters of baptism. What a bold sign baptism in water is! This mission field into which Jesus sends us all is very near to us. It is all around, every day. Let us be a church filled with the expansive and overflowing love of God. Let us be a Chri...Jonathan ...

EO Online: Mary and Prophetic Imagination
http://eoonline.blogspot.com/2009/12/mary-and-prophetic-imagination.html
This place will not console us. Thursday, December 3, 2009. Mary and Prophetic Imagination. For me this begs the question: how did this young Jewish woman caught up in a divine sex scandal capture the imagination and unswerving devotion of the Christian church centuries later? What kind of role model is she for me and for the church? How could she instead rejoice? At the time, I dismissed her seemingly simple-minded obedience and overlooked the profound prophetic hope that her joy brought to life.

http://eoonline.blogspot.com/2009/12/behold-here-cometh-dreamer.html
This place will not console us. Thursday, December 24, 2009. Behold, here cometh the Dreamer. Behold, here cometh the Dreamer. Let us slay him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams. On this evening of transcendent celebration, when the very angels sang in the midst of the pageantry of the stars in the sky, Mary sits pondering these things in her heart. What might it mean for her child to be the long awaited messiah? Later, what might these kingly gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh foretell?

http://eoonline.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
This place will not console us. Thursday, April 30, 2009. The Community and Confirmation. Excerpts from a church geek conversation on Facebook:. Allen wonders whether the Episcopal Church knows what it believes about Confirmation…. Definitely not, but we know what it isn’t. I have heard that Confirmation is a sacrament in search of a theology, but then again, aren’t we all? Confirmation is an opportunity for declaration of the joyous (an outward sign of grace). Possibly true at various times:. Do we cont...
