Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia: About this blog
http://liberia-investments.blogspot.com/p/about-this-blog.html
Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia. This blog is about economic development using Information and Communication Technology (ICT), more generally in Africa, but specifically in the West African nation of Liberia – but that’s the “what”. Everyone knows and generally supports the idea of economic development especially in developing countries, for several reasons: poverty reduction, anti-terrorism strategies, improved health, public-good creation, etc. With that, I welcome you and inv...

Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia. Sunday, October 24, 2010. There is little doubt as to the impact that has been made by micro-financing in developing areas. Before micro-financing the “little guys” had little to no chance. Microfinance as a whole is the supply loans, incentivized savings, and other basic financial services to poor and marginalized groups. Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia: What does Isabel have to say?
http://liberia-investments.blogspot.com/2010/10/what-does-isabel-have-to-say.html
Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia. Monday, October 11, 2010. What does Isabel have to say? Having realized the importance of human capital to private sector development and sustainability, the Millennium Development Goals were set to encourage a systematic progression in this area. There are many reasons why these goals are difficult to meet in many nations, Liberia included. One of the most obvious problems is the lack of professionals; Liberia has approximately 122 doctors.

Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia: September 2010
http://liberia-investments.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Good governance sets the tune. Good governance and a thriving private sector…these are the two pillars for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – and to a larger extent, economic growth, in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Huffington Post recently had an excellent piece. While the MDGs do not explicitly focus on ICT, (Information and Communication Technology) each can be accelerated with its use. Since the curren...

Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia: A lesson from American Elephants and Donkeys?

Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia. Thursday, October 14, 2010. A lesson from American Elephants and Donkeys? Consider this a side note – it has little to do with IT (besides the fact our medium of communication is precisely that), but it does deal a whole lot with ethics, the economics of the Liberian private sector, and maybe even some common sense. Sent to the Daily Observer (a private Liberian Newspaper) in August 2009, Mr. Martin Scott wrote:. Now ain't that sweet? Imagine if ...

Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia. Monday, October 18, 2010. Pfizer sponsored study shows that Digital Records help to spot side effects. Interesting follow-up to the Isabel post. A few days ago (also interesting is the fact that a large drug company sponsored a study that could possibly give them a bigger hurdle in the future - go figure). An article. Nurse Stephanie Louw retrieves. Paper records last year in Utah. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What does Isabel have to say?

Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia: Filling the gap using cell phones: Text Eagle, M-Pesa, Wizzit

Using IT to promote private sector development in Liberia. Thursday, November 11, 2010. Filling the gap using cell phones: Text Eagle, M-Pesa, Wizzit. My last blog post. Mentioned some of the facts about Africa’s (especially Sub-Saharan Africa’s) contribution (or lack of) to the global society most have come to cherish. Barring a few countries with low penetration rates, most Sub-Saharan African countries do stand out and have sharp growth trajectories within their mobile phone distribution. The video be...
