Lumbypics: Bookshelf
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/p/library.html
This is a list of the books of and about photographs (and things relating to photography) which I have on my shelves (and one I have lost along the way). Some I have had since my student days, some I have acquired recently, some in the time between then and now. Photo-books, Catalogues, etc:. Life of a Photograph - Sam Abell. William Albert Allard: Five Decades - William Albert Allard. I'm a Real Photographer: Photographs - Keith Arnatt. Eve Arnold's People - Eve Arnold. Exposed - David Bailey. In Flagra...

Lumbypics: Some good stuff
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/2015/07/some-good-stuff.html
Sunday, 19 July 2015. No, not any of my photos, but some things I've found or been made aware of on the BBC site recently. First up a short film about the Amber Collective. Another short film about John Bulmer. Finally a programme about a few British (mostly) documentary photographers. That is only available for a month). Posted by Dave Lumb. Lumbypics: June 2015
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, 27 June 2015. Summertime is filled with local events. Today was the village church's Rose Queen Coronation. Something else I've ignored for most of my life! Once more the brass band was in evidence, along with the usual amateurish PA announcements and performances by children that only their family and the terminally sentimental could enjoy. The man-sized teddy bear being raffled off was using last years label for a cuddly dog. Two great new attractions this year were bacon (? Nothing to show h...

Lumbypics: February 2015
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 25 February 2015. I've taken two photographs this week on my ramblings while shopping which have both elements I hadn't noticed at the time, but which I think add to the pictures. That the man's gaze leads your eye to the woman, and her gaze sort of leads you to the mallet is pure coincidence. But that's one of the fascinations of photography. Posted by Dave Lumb. Monday, 23 February 2015. It doesn't seem like three months since I wrote about Black Country Stories. A Place in the Country.

Lumbypics: January 2015
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Friday, 30 January 2015. Gratuitous photograph owing to lack of photographic activity this week. Posted by Dave Lumb. Tuesday, 20 January 2015. It seems that my documentary head is back in place. A walk round the sandplant today suggests that its days in it's current state are numbered. I have no idea if the process is being documented officially. If it is it probably won't be in the way I'd do it. Posted by Dave Lumb. Monday, 19 January 2015. One the one hand I feel like I should concentrate on document...

Lumbypics: March 2015
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, 22 March 2015. As usual when lacking motivation (which is not the same as inspiration) I headed for the sandplant on Saturday to see how things had changed. It's funny how my little brain works, but this particular mound of reclaimed sand reminded me of Ayers Rock. Probably a tenuous connection for anyone else! Irrespective of that I like the way it's difficult to gauge the scale of the view. This first one shows the high tide covering land which is a recent breach in the bund. I'm told the p...

Lumbypics: Pottering
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/2015/08/pottering.html
Sunday, 16 August 2015. It's a while since I posted anything on here, which is not because I haven't taken any photos, I have taken lots, but because I haven't had much to say about them. But since writing over on 'that photography forum' the other day that I'm coming to think there are two sorts of photographer - instinctive/reactive ones and planners/controllers - it sort of fits in with what I have been doing with my cameras. At the other end of the scale the Autoflora project has, I'm pretty certain,...

Lumbypics: April 2015
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, 19 April 2015. The gift that keeps on giving. Not having been to the sandplant for a few weeks but having driven past it I thought an evening visit might be in order. What a difference low evening light and blue skies makes! This picture wouldn't have worked had the sky been overcast and the light flat as it's all about the colour and the cloud seemingly hanging over the skip. While the first picture was shot very wide with the sun to my side, the next one was shot long and into the light. Th...

Lumbypics: October 2014
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, 23 October 2014. The same, but different. The ability for photography to record change is something which continues to fascinate me. A few weeks back I noticed that the red box. I photographed last year was, miraculously considering it is in a very public place, still in the same place. However it had faded considerably. I didn't take a photo of it, just made a mental note of the fact. Today, for some unknown reason, I did. Posted by Dave Lumb. Sunday, 19 October 2014. With that experiment out ...

Lumbypics: Chicken attack
http://lumbypics.blogspot.com/2015/08/chicken-attack.html
Wednesday, 19 August 2015. Never work with children or animals - especially chickens! Mostly chickens are fine if twitchy subjects, but they are inquisitive. I suspect this one could see itself in the front element of my lens, which was why it poked its head inside the hood to try and have a peck. One thing I was glad of taking along was the longer zoom. Even for the horses it proved worthwhile and got twice the use of the 24-70 I'd imagined would suffice. It's drawback being with the smaller ani...I don...
