Essex Bird Watching Society. Bird Species in Essex. Things You Need for Birdwatching. Things You Need for Birdwatching. Birdwatching doesn't require any special equipment. But there are a few things that are good to have to enjoy observing the birds in their natural surroundings such as:. Wonder which species is which? Why not capture the birds on a camera? The Blue Chaffinch: Tenerife - December 2010

http://thebluechaffinch.blogspot.com/2011/01/tenerife-december-2010.html

Thursday, 27 January 2011. Tenerife - December 2010. A brief stay on Tenerife,. Probably the best bird in the world. Managed to get a week's holiday on Tenerife in early December, but only just thanks to a combination of severe snow and striking Spaniards. It wasn't really a birding trip although naturally I did manage to persuade my wife to let me drive to some hopeful spots. Canary flock at Punta Hidalgo. 65279; . Dartford Warbler: Eastern Koel

http://blog.dartfordwarbler.com/2014/11/eastern-koel.html

Saturday, 29 November 2014. Here's one from the kitchen window. The Koels arrive along much of the east coast in spring and call day and night. The testosterone among the males seems to be at its peak in Bondi at the moment. Two, usually inconspicuous, males where seen scrapping on the pavement yesterday in broad daylight - and some extreme male/female interaction today. Great times. Posted by Paul at 03:02. The Blue Chaffinch: February 2013

http://thebluechaffinch.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, 23 February 2013. Garden ringing and a tick. What struck me immediately was their small size - noticeably a size smaller that a goldfinch - and the brightness of the plumage. This really is a superb looking bird. The tail is very short, giving it a very characteristic jizz. Posted by Blue Chaffinch. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Friday, 8 June 2012. At last, we have a new arrival. Our newts have bred! After keeping a few Marbled newts Triturus marmoratus. The Blue Chaffinch: More garden ringing...

http://thebluechaffinch.blogspot.com/2012/02/more-garden-ringing.html

Sunday, 26 February 2012. Another weekend at home and so another opportunity to set the net in the garden. It's been so mild and sunny that it really looks as though spring is springing. I'd been putting out apples all week and hoped that this may attract a few thrushes or something else - sure enough, I have noticed a lovely male Blackcap in the garden all week - would I be able to catch him?
