Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Isabel Tsege Kasech and Elijah Geremu Desalegn. Posted by jayme @ 2:51 PM. Tuesday, January 30, 2007. Lifebooks and letters home. I tried all day yesterday to start our childrens' lifebook, but only got around to gathering some facts and pictures of Ethiopia, and writing the opening lines. I just feel like I'll know so much more about their story and experiences after I travel. Posted by jayme @ 7:01 AM. Sunday, January 28, 2007. We still need to pick up the second crib and b...

Saturday, July 15, 2006. In preparation for my upcoming trip to Thailand, I got in touch with a couple of travel medicine clinics to compare the prices for the impressive array of vaccines I'll be needing for both Thailand and Ethiopia. After doing some research, I decided to get the following vaccines:. I will be going back to get the meningitis shot as soon as it's available (apparently there is a manufacturing shortage which is making this vaccine slightly more difficult to come by). My wallet took th...

Wednesday, June 28, 2006. Even though we've gone through the classes, finished our homestudy, gathered piles of paperwork, and jumped through all the requisite hoops, it still seems sort of surreal that this is actually happening. I don't know that it will really begin to set in until we actually see their little faces. I can't wait! Posted by jayme @ 3:26 AM. Midwest, United States. View my complete profile. Friday, May 05, 2006. Made the decision to adopt and began researching adoption options (domestic vs. international, public vs. private). We needed to wait until jon graduated and accepted a job offer before we could officially start the process. Jon accepted a job, so we officially started the adoption process. Attended informational meeting at the Cradle and handed in application the same day. Applied to placement agency, CHSFS. Began licensing trainings online (adoptionlearningpartners.org). So we are...

Sunday, February 25, 2007. Posted by jayme @ 7:29 AM. Saturday, February 10, 2007. A moment of thanks. I've been running around like crazy trying to get everything in order so that we can leave. The store, the bank, lunch with friends, the post office, Sams Club to stock up on essentials, back to the store. It's ceaseless! Our friends (too numerous to name individually). The people who have listened to us complain about our referral wait, who celebrated with us when we finally got the call, who went ...

Tuesday, March 21, 2006. We've decided to begin a blog that will document the ups and downs of our international adoption process. In December of 2005, after many discussions and much thought, we decided that we were ready to begin building a family. Adoption was always something that we had considered, and we ultimately decided that we wanted to pursue this option first, before attempting to give birth to biological children. Thursday, November 30, 2006. As of today we have been waiting 6 months. I was very hopful that we'd hear something this week, but my hope is fading fast. Oh well. Next week would be nice. I'm really doing okay with the wait. I've gotten to this place where I know that it's going to happen eventually, and while I wish our referral would come NOW! I'm actually pretty okay waiting. Maybe we'll have a referral by new years? Posted by jayme @ 2:43 PM. Sunday, November 26, 2006. Could this be our week? I've be...

Tuesday, September 26, 2006. Posted by jayme @ 7:11 AM. Sunday, September 24, 2006. My mom died tonight. She had been battling a rare form of brain cancer for the past two and a half years. She fought hard, but in the end, her body was so broken down that it was just time for her to rest. Cancer is the dirtiest word I know. We know our referral is close, and while I wish she could have at least seen photos of our children, my entire family has been comforted by the fact that we'll soon have a new generat...

Friday, October 27, 2006. Some days i wonder if they've lost our paperwork. Posted by jayme @ 6:51 PM. Wednesday, October 25, 2006. A momentary brush with fame. So yesterday we got a call from our homestudy agency (no, unfortunately it was not. Call) They had been approached by a local news station about interviewing a family who is currently in the process of adopting internationally, and our homestudy social worker recommended us for the job. Posted by jayme @ 12:08 AM. Monday, October 23, 2006. The ro...

Saturday, December 16, 2006. We sent the acceptance paperwork back to CHSFS yesterday afternoon. We're still waiting on some clarification of some of their referral information and a health update, but we can't imagine that there would be anything in that new information that would convince us not to accept the referral. So the process is moving forward! Today we're going shopping (surprise surprise! Posted by jayme @ 4:27 AM. Thursday, December 14, 2006. We learned that their mother's name, Kasech, mean...
