Even though you are up in the mountains you are only a few miles from the sea. The best beach in the area is the three mile long Newton beach. And dunes near Porthcawl. It stretches all the way around to Ogmore-by-Sea and is always relatively empty. It has the added advantage of being dog friendly. The beach is also used for horse-riding with jet ski and kayaking lesson conducted just offshore. Right behind Afan Valley House is a modern pool with up-to-date facilities. Cymmer pool website.
